Canoeing on the River Yarra at Melbourne was an important and widespread recreational pursuit for Melbournians, especially in the first half of the twentieth century. The Victorian Canoe Club was formed in 1912 at a meeting in Melbourne and its first committee elected in the same year. Records indicate that the Club continued into at least the 1950s .The album has historic and social significance as a record of recreational activities (as well as canoe making) in the early years of the twentieth century. It has local significance as the site of the headquarters of the Club was in Studley park. A number of photographs in the album provide vistas of Kew on the Yarra that are otherwise unavailable.One of 24 labelled photos in part album, originating from the Victorian Canoe Club, which had its headquarters in Studley Park, Kew. The album includes a photographic record of canoe construction and also locations in Studley Park and Kew where the canoes were used. This is a set of five black & white photographs of troops from the Army Headquarters Survey Regiment undertaking ceremonial drill at the military funeral for SSGT Peter Dew in 1977. The location of the funeral service was at Fortuna, Bendigo. He was buried at Bendigo Cemetery in Quarry Hill. Peter Dew died in a tragic accident at home. He was fondly remembered as one of Lithographic Squadron’s colourful personalities. See item 6243.7P for photos of Peter Dew at work in Lithographic Squadron. The "Super Animal of the Year" Peter Dew Memorial Award was an award presented to a member of the squadron for a crude act. The photograph of the RDNS Clerical staff is taken in the Finance Department at Royal District Nursing Service ( RDNS) Headquarters, 452 St. Kilda Road, MelbourneWhen the Melbourne District Nursing Society (MDNS) was founded in 1885, Mr. L.C. MacKinnon was elected the first Honorary Treasurer followed by Mr. Lush. In 1889, Mrs. Margaret Maine took over the role and held the position several times over the years along with various ladies elected each year from the Committee. Ladies continued to be elected as the Hon. Treasurer when MDNS built the After Care Home and it became the Melbourne District Nursing Society and After Care Home (later Hospital). This continued until the separation of the two Divisions in 1957 with Mrs. F.E. Shillabeer the last Hon. Treasurer. Now, with the District Division becoming Melbourne District Nursing Service, later Royal District Nursing Service (RDNS), A.F. Cameron Esq. J.P. became Hon. Treasurer and held this role until July 1968. Bob (Herman) Hymans (a former member of the Royal Netherlands Navy) was born in Bloemendaal, Holland on 30th September 1922. During World War II he fought against the Japanese in the Dutch East Indies (now Indonesia) and was imprisoned in Changi and on the Burma Railway. After gaining qualifications as a Ski Instructor, Bob arrived in Falls Creek in July 1950. Working as an Instructor and Supervisor at Bogong Lodge, Bob decided his future was in accommodation. He was successful in negotiating an indenture for land from the State Electricity Commission (SEC). It took Bob two years to build his Grand Coeur Chalet but, tragically, it was burned down in August 1961. Bob also built the first Chairlift in Australia. This was a single chairlift and the structure was built from wooden electricity poles. He was constantly full of new ideas and proposals for the village. Bob Hymans die on 7th July 2007. This Collection of documents and letters tells the story of Bob's endeavours to develop Falls Creek into the ski village it is today.This letter is significant because it documents developments made or endorsed by the Falls Creek Tourist Area Management Committee.A letter from the Management Committee announcing the successful applicant for the operation of the Falls Creek Ski School. Mr. Evans is CEO of Royal District Nursing Service (RDNS), and he is sitting in his office at RDNS Headquarters, 452 St. Kilda Road, Melbourne.Mr. Evans was CEO of Royal District Nursing Service for many years and introduced computers to improve the Payroll system and the Records Department. In his years at RDNS the Service expanded into many suburbs with Centres being built, more cars required, more nurses employed and a rise in patient numbers. He was CEO when RDNS underwent its initial 'Accreditation for 3 years' in 1985. A coloured photograph of Mr. Frank Evans, who has receding dark hair, and is wearing a pale blue long sleeve shirt and a brown patterned tie.
