A certificate typed on Melbourne Legacy letterhead to certify that the recipient had completed a leadership training course in August 1979. It meant the junior legatee was qualified to assist in the youth classes. It also mentions the Junior Legatee is entitled to what the 'Leader' badge on her uniform. Hence it was a leadership course for female junior legatees. This uncompleted certificate is unnamed and is not signed by the President, which was L/ W R Mehan in 1979, so it had not been awarded and could be a generic draft of a certificate for the files.A record that Legacy provided advancement opportunities for the girls in the classes. A gold coloured metal Junior Legacy Club badge patch that was given to Junior Legatees. Date is unknown but probably from the 1950s or 1960s. This badge was donated to Legacy after it was found in an charity shop. It was photographed and sent to a former Junior Legatee as a replacement for their badge that had broken. There is no indication either of who wrote this, nor whether other chapters were written. Although it covers the same events as "Legacy" by Claude Blatchford, and "The Torch" by M.H. Ellis, it is not a draft for either. The chapter covers events from the inauguration of Legacy in 1923 to a conference of Legacy Clubs held in Melbourne in 1928. Photos of the 50th Anniversary Dinner on 6 October 1973 held at Chaucers. It shows a table with Ivan Layton and Matron Vivian Bullwinkel. Ivan was the CEO of Legacy for 30 years. Matron Bullwinkel was a good friend of his. The wellness centre at Legacy House was named after Vivian Bullwinkel in 2020. Photos of the Legacy Garden of Appreciation at the Shrine of Remembrance from various angles and three plaques that explain the garden and flowers. It is called the Garden of Appreciation 'marking the generosity of Victorians in supporting Legacy in its work of assisting widow sand children of deceased veterans'. The 'Widow and Children' statue was commission by Legacy and installed in 1998. The Garden is in a cruciform shape and is on the eastern side of the Shrine Reserve near Birdwood Avenue. It was formerly called the Garden of Memory from 1980-1986 according to Monument Australia website. One plaque explains 'the garden features the Flanders Fields poppies, the seeds which came from Villers-Bretonneux, France'. A summary about the Intermediate Legacy Club included in the Legacy Newsletter on 2 August 1949 for the information of Legacy members. The article mentions: The ILC was formed in 1930 (actually 1929) with a total membership of 16 (18 names identified in 01622). The idea of the club sprang from those boys who had outgrown the Junior Legacy Club. In the early days it fielded a lacrosse team and it was this that mainly held the members together. Enthusiasm wained after a few years as it lacked a solid objective. The answer came from one of its members and in 1938 they founded the Don Esses Club. This was a club for the children of incapacitated ex-servicemen which met every Thursday night at 7.30 run by the ILC members. The name came from the signallers' code Disabled Servicemen's Sons. During the second world war 80% of the members of the ILC enlisted in the services. Leaving only 8 members that could not join due to ill health or reserved occupations. They continued the Don Esses and whatever aid they could to Legacy. ILC members had always helped Legacy where possible including being camp leaders or camp staff, with the annual demonstrations, and coffee stalls at the ANZAC dawn service. Post second world war some ILC members were nominated into Legacy, others drifted away in civil occupations. It was found difficult to recruit new blood into the ILC and eventually membership waned when the boys from the Don Esses clubs found other youth activities to join. The ILC ceased to meet regularly in the mid fifties. However a strong comradeship still existed between members and they would meet in one anothers homes. Members were always ready to help the senior Legacy Club in any way in their power and still helped at Christmas parties and summer camps. ILC was a service rendering organisation and was self governing. Non-sectarian and non-political, the members were ex-junior legatees over 18 years of age. In the 2000s Legacy released a range of Legacy Bears to expand the merchandise available for sale during Legacy Week and at other fundraising opportunities during the year. This bear is in an Australian WW1 nurse with a red cape and white headpiece. The Australian Army Nursing Service (AANS) was formed in 1903 as part of the Australian Army Medical Corps. More than 3,000 civilian nurses volunteered to serve during WWI. While their stories are rarely told eight of these inspirational women received the Military Medal for bravery. This is an example of Melbourne Legacy promotional material. Legacy invited the leading guitarists, Phil and Tony Emmanuel to be Personality of the Year in 1995. They helped to promote Legacy, especially during Badge Week (see 00838). They were chosen as their father had served in the Air Force in New Guinea. When he died Legacy helped support their mother and her 6 children. They were releasing a new album in 1995, 'Terra Firma' and Legacy was given a special mention at each concert in Australia. Their album also featured a song called "The Last Post" which was dedicated to the men and women who gave their lives in times of war to keep Australia free. The main time of year for fundraising is September when Legacy holds 'Badge Week'. Often there is a celebrity who gives his or her time as 'Personality of the Year'. Examples are Sir Weary Dunlop (1992), Clive James (1993), the Scott family (1994), The Emmanuel brothers (1995), Daryl Somers (1996 and 1997), and Patsy Adam Smith (1994?). A document recording the history of the Intermediate Legacy Ladies Club (ILLC). It was put together by Legatee Chas Wilks for publication in the Bulletin for the information of Legatees. It starts with the formation of the early girls' classes in 1927. Then the older girls formed the 'Old Girls Club' which then was renamed 'Intermediate Legacy Ladies Club' (ILLC) in 1955. At the time it was printed, they had been meeting for 34 years and fundraising for Legacy. They ran Special Efforts Bowls mornings, card afternoons, house parties, crazy whist nights, and produced a recipe book.
