Block of tickets - paper printed paper stapled too a cardboard back with a top retaining piece, "Railway Check Tickets" printed in black on off white paper with two red diagonal stripes, numbers B879814 to 879999. Used for passengers who travelled by tram or bus on railway issued tickets. Has the terms of use printed on the tickets, only available on Sundays. Issued by the MMTB. The only line that these were used on was Route 19, for the Upfield line. Functional object - Correspondence Satchel, Melbourne & Metropolitan Tramways Board (MMTB), c1940?
Leather Correspondence Satchel with associated materials consisting of: .1 - Leather Correspondence satchel made from brown leather, sewn on the edges with two flaps that could be reversed with two metal plates riveted onto each flap giving the destination of the bag, two metal rings to enable the bag to be secured and a leather carry handle on one side riveted to the bag. Metal plates - brass - "Traffic Manager Head Office" and nickel plated "MMTB Hawthorn". 2 - Padlock and Key - Lockwood Australia brass with steel hasp engraved "MMTB Hawthorn", key stamped "Hawthorn 1220". Received with a brown string noted through the key - retained. 3 - Two steel metal pins used for securing larger correspondence satchel - see article written by Dean Gilbert about the correspondence procedures at MMTB Head Office in 1979 - htd3000i7 where the bag for "Northcote bus depot" (Northcote Bus Workshops) is shown in a photograph. 4 - Paper tag brown card with a reinforcing ring, print item "3/585", headed "Melb & Met Tramways Board", written to go "Essendon" in pencil and "Not Required at Essendon and bag returned". Red card covers book, with sections for general information, tram fares, bus fares and passes printed on white, yellow, green or pink paper, secured with an Arnos binder metal clip on the left hand side, titled "MMTB Electric Tramways and Motor Omnibuses Traffic Information Book", dated March 1981. Details the various section and fares for each tram and bus route, General instructions, concession fares and has photos or drawings of the various special tickets, eg passes or prepaid tickets. 2nd copy added 19/12/2019 from the Collection of Bob Prentice, donated by Barry Brooks. Set of six documents associated with a Wattle Park band recital by the AIF Legion of Anzacs band on Sunday 17 October 1943 in support of the 4th Liberty Loan. .1 - printed poster advertising the afternoon and travel by tram from Princes Bridge. .2 - duplicated notice from the Assistant Manager to Depots dated 13/10/1943 about the bus to be used to transport band members from Elizabeth St to Wattle Park - Central Bus Depot - notes the bus had been specially prepared for the event. .3 - typed notice from the District Traffic Superintendent to Hawthorn and Camberwell depots about special trams for the event and arrangements for conductors. Signed by J. M.
