Frank (Thomas Francis) Cahir enlisted in the 2nd Australian Field Ambulance on 18 August 1918, serving at Gallipoli, and was awarded a Military Medal on 27 October 1916. On 15 September 1918 he was recommended for the award of a Distinguished Conduct Medal, but through an oversight, it was never gazetted, and therefore not awarded until after a successful application for recognition resulted in the award of a Distinguished Service Medal on 18 October 2017. As part of a program to acknowledge the Anzac Centenary Nillumbik Shire Council partnered with Yarra Plenty Regional Library to provide a bus tour with commentary of local sites of significance. These included Eltham township, the Shire of Eltham War Memorial at Kangaroo Ground, Christmas Hills war memorial, Hurstbridge memorial recreation park and finshed at Eltham Library to view the Writing the War exhibtion at Eltham Library Community Gallery.
