Article, Rosie Bray et al, World War One digger's forgotten medal, by John Cahir, interviewed by Rosie Bray, 18/10/2017

Historical information

Frank (Thomas Francis) Cahir enlisted in the 2nd Australian Field Ambulance on 18 August 1918, serving at Gallipoli, and was awarded a Military Medal on 27 October 1916. On 15 September 1918 he was recommended for the award of a Distinguished Conduct Medal, but through an oversight, it was never gazetted, and therefore not awarded until after a successful application for recognition resulted in the award of a Distinguished Service Medal on 18 October 2017. His son John Cahir tells the story to Rosie Bray.
