Rod Atkins advised 11/10/2020: "The bus body is one of the four James Motors of South Melbourne body's first fitted to the group of 12 Thornycroft "J" chassis in 1924-1925 numbered 13 to 24. Then in 1929 they were all transferred to the ADC chassis but four were retained in late thirties to early forties for possible further use. The four bodies were then fitted to the new International K6 chassis in 1943. The vehicle numbers were 19 to 308 16 to 309 24 to 311 and 18 to 312. They were finally disposed of in 1949." The photograph shows a section of remnant track at the intersection of Bourke and Spencer Sts that remained until it was removed on 25/8/1987 when connecting curves were installed at Bourke and Spencer Streets, forming a double track triangular junction, in preparation for the conversion of the St Kilda and Port Melbourne railway lines to 'light rail'. This necessitated the removal of the last few metres of cable car track in Melbourne, which had been left in situ at the former Bourke Street terminus as a reminder of bygone days. Used by a cable tram conductor to record the number of 2d fares collected from passengers. The Bell punch recorded the number of times a hole was punched in the slip. They were used by the cable trams until the mid-1920s when they were phased out and replaced by "flimsy" paper tickets. The item has been punched a number of times. Printed for the Tramway Board (1916 to 1919). Has space for 32 journeys. On one side, has space for the name Line, Date, Badge, car, time of starting, and signature, if a student conductor. Details how Police would signal for the number of trams to cross in either direction and how the signalman would operate the signals and the cable depression lever for Collins St cable cars. The photo has written on it in white ink "Goodfellows "Ferry" over any difficulty including the "Badger" " and date of 18.3.12. which is a reference to the General Strike in Brisbane of Jan 1912 by Brisbane Tramway Company workers over the wearing of Union badges which was strongly opposed by the Company Manager Joesph 'Boss' Badger.
