In 1993 Sunbury Railway Station underwent refurbishment and with some extensions added to the existing building. The Sunbury Garden Club undertook the task of constructing the garden on the east side of the station. The photograph was taken two tears after the completion of the work. Although the Railway line had been planned for some time Sir Thomas Bent MP was responsible for making it happen in order to revitalize the fortunes of the Moorabbin Shire that he had represented for so long. The train line opened in 1881with 8 Stations between Caulfield and Mordialloc.The first Steam engine carried dignitaries and local residents. Bent also ensured that the Station houses in his constituency were built in a distinctive decorative cottage style. Bent faced severe criticism for diverting the rail line through his local area and for the expenditure on the Stations. Local residents established and cared for Gardens at the Stations and Cheltenham was awarded Best Garden c1910. The arrival of the Railway Line saw the traders move from Point Nepean Rd to Charman Rd and by 1910 various shops and business were present. 2016 - current has seen large protest rallies against the destruction of Mentone Station and Cheltenham Station as the Victorian State Government proceeds to remove Railway Level Crossings. David Kinnane was the leader of a Victorian Railways First Aid team that won many state and interstate competitions. Other members of the team were: Geoffrey Storey and Joe Deveson. The Brighton - St Kilda Bus lines could issue tickets, as an agent, from St Kilda Railway Station to Melbourne on behalf of the Victorian Railways. These dated tickets represent a sample of these. A group of tickets would be issued to each driver for the day who would issue them in order from his ticket tray or kit. The Victorian Railways oil can/feeder was used to oil various parts of engines of trains as part of the maintenance of trains. This would have been carried out by employees in the 'Rolling Stock Branch' of Victorian Railways, which included the maintenance and operation of locomotives and rolling stock. It was donated by a resident of Wodonga, and the Wodonga train line and train station opened in November 1873 when the section of the line from Wangaratta to Wodonga was completed. This photograph was taken during the upgrade of the Bendigo Railway line at the Sunbury Station in 2005. The upgrade took twelve months to complete and during this time bus services replaced the trains for commuters along Bendigo line.A coloured photograph of the construction on the site of the Sunbury Railway Station. Original Victorian Railways teapot, part of the silver service at Mt Buffalo Chalet. Part of Victorian Railways silver service. When the Victorian railways took over management of the Chalet from 1 October 1924, they ran their dining room and café in similar fashion to the dining cars on their trains and refreshment rooms on their stations, using the same ceramic hotel-ware and electro plated nickel silverware (EPNS), all made to order items that are clearly identified by the distinctive 'VR' monogram. The Chalet retains a good selection of the diverse range of EPNS item formerly used in the dining room..- which in all their variety and function help to interpret the dining room protocols of the 'tourist house' and the service provided by the Victorian Railways refreshment and Services Branch. Many of the items were manufactured by Stoke & Sons of Melbourne (est. 1856.)' (Pg. 103.
