The music for popular First World War composition "The Boys of the Dardenelles" by Marsh Little and arranged by J.Devlin Deane 1915 and copyrighted Sydney 1915. These cards attach to the lyre holder on the cornet for use in a marching band. This copy belonging to Michael Taffe of Ballarat and used during WWI & WWII.This is the first piece of specifically Australian patriotic music generated as a result of the disastrous campaign at Anzac. The Kodak No2A folding autographic Brownie was introduced by the Eastman Kodak Co in 1915 and several variants were produced between 1915 and 1925. There is a door in the back,and a stylus for writing on the back of the film for labelling the negatives. A Christmas present from her parents to Mary Burke (Taffe) in 1928. Basic bellows or folding camera unusual for its time because the lens is behind the shutter. There is a screw thread in front of the shutter for additional 'portrait' lenses. Base of the box has 691162 inscribed in pencil (possibly a stock number) followed by £3/9/6 and Xmas Eve 1928 in blue ink indicating its price and date of presentation. A badly damaged vintage 1915 hardcover children's book with the title Chatterbox. printed in white lettering at the top of the front cover which has a green coloured background with an illustration in a large circle of a dog with a red bandana wrapped around its head, lying in a straw lined box. A black cat is sitting looking at the dog and is wearing a blue ribbon with a bow around its neck. It is sitting near the dog's food bowl. The yellow and red coloured outside of the back cover has an advertisement for "Pears" soap with 'The Night of the Bath' printed underneath. The title page is missing as is the frontispiece coloured illustration usually found in these books. The pages 1 - 18 are missing. There are black and white illustrations, diagrams and coloured plates in the collection as well as puzzles, poetry, and stories for children. Pp. 400. The endpapers have several advertisements related to children, their health, food and sweets included. The former Christopher Crisp residence was constructed in 1868 by William Watson, one of the members of the Bacchus Marsh Express printing company which took over the management of The Express after the first edition, 7 July 1866, was published by its founder, George Lane, a book binder. This syndicate failed after three months and the ownership was then taken over by Christopher Crisp, a compositor working for the company. Crisp remained the editor from 1866 to his death in 1915, when he was succeeded by his son, also called Christopher Crisp, and later by his grandson. Under the Crisp family leadership, The Express widened its readership and was subscribed to by influential men and public servants in Melbourne. (Heritage Victoria Council. Places. Entry no. 45.)Small sepia unframed photograph on card with gold border framing photograph. Housed in the album, 'Photographs of Bacchus Marsh and District in 1883 by Stevenson and McNicoll'. The photograph is of a single-storey cottage of rendered brick and sandstone with a shingled roof of slate tiles and ornate concave verandah. A chimney stands at either end of the house. A carved barge board decorates the northern end of the hip roof. A skillion with windows and a chimney adjoins the rear of the cottage. The front facade is symmetrical with two sash windows placed either side of the central door. A wire fence runs along the front of the cottage. Standing at the gate is a formally dressed gentleman wearing a top hat. A young child is standing on the road. This child is possibly Christopher Crisp, Jnr., who later took over the role of editor of the Bacchus Marsh Express in 1915 on the death of his father. Bellows made of leather During WW1 it was marketed as a camera suitable for soldiers due to size and portability, often referred to as "The soldiers camera". It has small shutter release button mounted above the lens plate and below the lens there is a slider for choice of apertures, It originally used A127 autographic roll film. Private William James Richardson was a driver in the 4th Artillery Brigade. He enlisted on 16/07/1915 and embarked for Europe on 18/11/1915. He returned and married Elsie Park in 1938. Copied for use as a postcard for the Centennial Year in 1990. Note by T.H. Kneen 18 March 1992, "The original drawing was done by Milton Gellert and for a considerable time was displayed in the Fruit Preserving Branch's display window. This was Milton's own concept and was probably done in late 50's. Milton was on Burnley Staff 1955-57 & then employed at Plant Research Institute, Burnley Gardens." Photograph of a group of Legatees or Junior Legatees on horses on a polo field in Coldstream. Apparently Melbourne Legacy would have an annual event of a polo tournament. It is not known if it was with the junior legatees or as a social outing for the Legatees. It is possible that it is the same day out as the joyride over Melbourne from a regional airfield (at 01016) if the airfield was in the Yarra Valley. The two photos were together in the folio of photos. A church service for Legacy widows at St Paul's Cathedral in Melbourne. This is an annual event for Legacy widows at the start of Legacy Week, which is the first week in September. The church used for the service varies, this is believed to be St Paul's. The service is followed by a pilgrimage to the Shrine for a service and also a social gathering of a lunch together. The photos show Legatee Graham Riches holding the Legacy flag as part of the procession into the church. Stan Grossman sent this silk embroidery to his cousin Doris Grossman. Private Stanley GROSSMAN 246 from North Wangaratta enlisted on 15/7/1915 aged 19 years. He embarked on 10/11/1915 and served with the Camel Corp , 29th Battalion and 14th Light Horse.Ornate gold coloured plastic frame with cream mount containing a square pink cloth embossed in yellow and white thread and edged in yellow fringe. Souvenir Teaspoon featuring Ballarat tram No. 26 in a round inset at the top of the tea spoon, contained within a plastic case. The teaspoon made by Perfection Plate, of the Caprice style or type. The case has yellow plastic base, with clear top with the words "Caprice by Perfection" On the rear of the case is the wording "Perfection". The teaspoon is silver plated, with the tram in a picture 22mm round. The teaspoon is marked "Caprice" on the rear. Tea spoon is 116mm long x 25mm wide. Case is 125mm high, 32mm wide, by 16mm deep. Robert HANNAFORD (9 November 1944- ) Born Gilbert Valley, Riverton, South Australia From In 1967 to 1968 Robert Hannaford studied in Ballarat. Primarily known as a portrait artist he is also known for his landscapes, still lifes, nudes, and sculptures. Robert Hannaford has commented: "Portraiture is an exploration of character that goes beyond photography. It is an ongoing thing over a long period of time. You get elements of various emotions that can be sensed in the painting." Framed academic portrait of Dr Tom Kennedy who was the Director of the Gippsland Institute of Advanced Education (GIAE) from 1984 to 1989, and the inaugural Chief Executive Officer and Pro Vice-Chancellor of Monash University College Gippsland (MUCG) from 1990 to 1992. (In 2014 the Churchill Campus became part of Federation University Australia). Prior to moving to Gippsland, Professor Kennedy was the Deputy Director of the Chisholm Institute of Technology. He was an Associate Fellow of the Australian Institute of Management and a Fellow of the Royal Institute of Chemistry, Professor Kennedy held a degree in Science, a PhD in Chemistry (Glasgow) and a Diploma of Education.
