Bendigo Teacher's College, along with the Ballarat Teacher's College were the first non-metropolitan teacher colleges. The Bendigo College was established in 1926 and operated out of the Long Gully Primary School. DUring the depression, from 1930 to 1945 the college closed because of the economic climate. The college reopened in 1945 in temporary accommodation adjacent to the Camp Hill Primary School. In 1959 the college moved into purpose built premises in Osbourne St., Flora Hill where it remained until closing in 1973."Pheonix Celebrites for 1956". This set of notes on the Napier NZ tramway system provides details of the tram system and a list of the rolling stock. Notes that the system was destroyed by an earthquake, but he did not know the opening and closing dates at the time of preparation. The reference states that the system operated from 1913 to 1931. The former mill and weir shown in the photograph were sited on the banks of Jacksons Creek downstream from the town of Sunbury. John Eadie, a Scottish immigrant established the water-driven flour mill on the banks of the creek after he arrived in the colony in 1866. The mill continued operating until the outbreak of World War 1 when the metal wheel and iron roofing were taken and used for the war effort. The hill in the back ground with the trees and buildings was the site of the former Sunbury Asylum. The Tivoli Theatre was an open air theatre located behind the ANA building on View Street in Bendigo which began operating in 1910. This pamphlet features portraits of popular silent film actors of the day such as Paul Capellani noted French star and Miss Florence Turner American actress alongside tobacco slogans such as 'For Aroma, Sweetness and Flavour.' In approximately 1934 Beryl Jacquier (nee Keenan) was given this pram. The pram was purchased in Melbourne and picked up by Beryl's uncle who brought it by train to Seville Station (in Killara). Beryl's mother, Una Keenan, was the post-mistress who operated the post office from her home which was next to the station. This token was used at Falls Creek for one free ride on the Gully Chair. The Gully Chair was constructed in 1964 by McCallum Engineering. Ron McCallum built 16 lifts throughout Australia from 1954 to 1970. It had a Doppelmayr drive and some other moving parts. The Gully Chair was a two seater fixed-grip chair. It had a length of 456 metres and a vertical distance of 76 metres. This Chairlift operated from 1964 until 1981. In 1948 Bob Hymans (1922-2007) built a small lodge on the corner of Falls Creek Road by the oversnow called Four Seasons or The Grand Coeur Annexe. Believed to be a wonderful host Bob also owned and operated Southern Cross and Grand Coeur. Grand Coeur unfortunately burnt down in 1961. These skis, now located in the Falls Creek Museum, were donated by Bob’s daughter Bridget. Elizabeth Doney (1880-1958) was a long time resident of Research, Vic. After the death of her parents, brother and sister-in-law she became the care giver for her nephews, while operating the town General Store and later Post Office, which she and before her, her parents managed for over eighty years. Elizabeth was also involved in many community activities including donating land (three house blocks) for the establisment of the Church of the Transfiguration, Research. Historic photo of mining at Specimen Hill. After crushing ore, the sand pyrites remaining could be treated to extract even finer gold. The sand was placed in large brick ovens to be roasted, which freed the sand of arsenic, sulphur etc, with the fumes containing these elements released into the atmosphere via a large chimney. Spargo's Pyrite Company operated from about 1870. It closed when there became a shortage of workers during WW1 and appears to have not restarted after the war. Black and white image, possibly copy. Thomas Heath built this shop for his saddlery business around 1875. In 1926 after 58 years operating his saddlery in Bacchus Marsh he retired and the assets of his business were sold in a clearing sale. The building was later demolished. Apart from his services in saddlery his premises was known to be a gathering place for much discussion. Heath was known to openly express his political opinions and his saddlery premises was known by many in the community as the 'Parliament'.Small sepia unframed photograph on card with gold border framing photograph. Housed in the album, 'Photographs of Bacchus Marsh and District in 1883 by Stevenson and McNicoll'. The photo is of a double-fronted weatherboard building with a shingle roof. The front gabled section stands directly on street level and is flanked by a picket fence. The door and overhead window and the side window with arched panels may indicate that this was the shop section, with a dwelling to the rear. Items which may be for sale can be seen hanging in the windows. The recessed side section of the building with a twelve-sectioned window, chimney and a back extension was probably the dwelling used by the family. On the footpath stands the saddler with three children, two boys and an older girl, probably Mr Thomas Heath and the Heath children. A hitching rail runs along the front of the workshop. Indicating the type of business Mr Heath ran, are a saddle placed over the rail and two horse collars and reins hanging either side of the workshop door. On the front: Stevenson & McNicoll. The base is ten centimetres diameter pedestal with a decorative scroll around the edge, it's five centimetres high and tapers four and a half centimetres. The bowl has a flat bottom with curved sides that rise six centimetres to a 14 centimetre opening. The lid has a decorative scroll on its edge which supports an open grid of five concentric circles with eight pieces radiating from the centre circle. Inside the bowl there is an eight centimetre diameter plastic frame to hold flowers. Engraved on the bowl is NORTHEN DISTRICT SCHOOL OF NURSING IN APPRICIATION POLICE EXAMINATIONS 1982. Engraved on the base is SILVER PLATED IANTHE OF ENGLAND The brown cardboard box has blue and white writing- IANTHE No 178 GEOGIAN STYLE, an image of the bowl, SILVER PLATED FLORAL BOWL.
