The work has an interesting texture created through the use of clearly defined thick paint strokes. This technique is particularly evident in the foreground where it has been used to create the ground from which the dead trees stand. Artist comment: These three prints (The Groom, The Undertaker's Assistant, The Organist) are part of a series on forebears of Portland. The drawings are taken from people in a collection of photographs belonging to the Johnson Family of Portland. The "Old Lady" and "The Wedding" are part of the same series.
