Used extensively within the Royal Australian Survey Corps for the compilation of maps and for map overlay production. These pens produced lines of consistent line widths for cartographic ink work and these replaced the earlier "Crow Quill" ink nib pens. These items were given to clients of the Mid City Motel (probably the one in Ballarat ). The Mid City Motel company was formed in 1963 by a syndicate with the motel in Raglan Parade, Warrnambool. It was later sold with the company liquidated in 1982. The expansion from Warrnambool to Ballarat occurred in 1970 with a building in Doveton Street North, Ballarat. Items such as the sewing kit and shower cap are still given out as promotional material in many motels today. These items are of little importance but are examples of the promotional activities of the motel/tourism scene 30 or so years ago. They may be useful for display.This is a small plastic bag containing a paper sewing kit and a paper folder containing two Alka-Seltser tablets. The sewing kit is red and white and the Alka Seltzer packet is mostly blue. The three items come from the Mid-City Motel and are intended to be kept in a car. 'The Kiewa Story' by Graham Napier requested submissions by residents of Mt Beauty for inclusion in his book. The submissions give a lot of detail and cover many subjects.An in-depth history as remembered by people who lived and worked on the Kiewa Hydro Electric Scheme from the 1940's onwards. Many lived locally in the construction towns of Mt Beauty and Bogong.A collection of papers in a white folder with submissions by locals as requested for the book "The Kiewa Story" by Graham Napier, Geoff Easdown in 1986. Warrnambool High School was established in 1907 and was housed in various locations around Warrnambool until 1961 when it moved into a purpose built building in Albert Park, Warrnambool . It merged with Warrnambool North Technical School to become Warrnambool College.in 1994..The badge is of superior quality and was probably given to visitors.This is retained as a memento of Warrnambool High School which was established over 100 years ago. This is one of a series of plaques which commemorated some of the winners of the Grand Annual Steeplechase which is held each year in Warrnambool. It is the longest race at a public course in Australia.The first Grand Annual was held in 1872 as the Warrnambool Handicap Steeplechase. Shackell's Bonded Stores in Murray Esplanade was a very early building in Echuca. Mr Shackell was shipping agent. He built the building with a Jewish Star right at the top to show his interest in his religion. He was also an early town councillor and may have even served a term as Mayor. His leasee was William McCulloch who was also a shipping agent, amongst other things. Written on the front of the building are the words "Shackell's Bonded Stores / Wm. McCulloch & Co. Proprietors / Forwarding Agents / Steamer Agents /. & Contracting Carriers & / Customs House Agents." Written on the window "Office of the Murray, Murrumbidgee and Darling Steamers."This photograph shows the importance of shipping agents in the early life of Echuca. It also shows the state of the roads in the 1870's. This building is still in use in the 21st Century with some of the wording still intact on the building. Wm McCulloch and Co went on to become a major international trading company. James Shackell made many contributions to early life in Echuca and there is a street named after him. A black and white copy of a photo of Shackell's Bonded Stores in Murray Esplanade. Also written on the front of the building 'Wm McCulloch $Co. Proprietors. Steamer Contracting & Agents Carriers. Custom House Agents. Forwarding Agents.' The Jewish star at the top of the building is partly visible. Murray Esplanade is dirty and muddy with stones strewn around.Written in lead pencil on the back is "Esplanade end. Could have been late 1870's or early 1880's when McCulloch's took it over. May have been taken when "Courtyard" added. This photograph has historical and social significance being typical of transport on the rivers systems of Australia in the late 1800s. Paddlesteamers carried supples to settlers and then carried their produce such as Wool and other produce down the rivers to markets or to be transferred by rail to the major ports such as Melbourne or Adelaide. Black and white photograph of an unknown lock scene where 3 men are working from a hollow platform structure, with one person being a diver coming up or going down a ladder. Another person appears to have hold of a hose (could be oxygen) and the back view of the other person appears to be working with them watching what is happening. This could be part of lock construction as there appears to be cranes and a tripod in the distance.This black and white photograph demonstrates historical and social significance in that it gives a close up view of workmen in the process of lock construction. It appears that there is a diver suited up with helmet on, descending the ladder and a person holding what appears to be hose connected to the person diving. Black and white photograph of 2 steamers moored by the river bank. The foreground steamer has 2 crew dressed in sailors uniform (band members?) There is a person standing on the lower roof section putting a case (?) into the upper floor with quite a few people up there also. There appears to be musical instruments behind the crowd. On the gangplank 2 men are wheeling a piece of equipment onto the steamer. The background steamer is the P. S. Canberra, also moored to the bank and unloading. There is a row boat in the middle of the river with 4 rowers and a standing cox.This appears to be a navel band getting ready for a cruise on the river, a social event that often happens in the Echuca area. On the other side of the river can be seen a "Caltex" sign and a couple of caravans parked between the trees. The photograph shows the state of the Echuca wharf in 1973 or 1974. The P.S Pevensey looks like it has just received a fresh coat of paint. There is also a train parked on the wharf behind the school students. The river also appears to be quite high. This photograph shows the state of the wharf in the early 1970's. It shows the fence between the wharf and Murray Esplande was relatively new. The tourism industry was very new to Echuca in the 1970's but the P.S Pevensey looks ready to take Tourists cruising on the Murray River. It also shows schools were using the port as a valuable resource for teaching History.A black and white photograph of the P.S Pevensey tied up to the Echuca Wharf. There is a group of school children leaning over the wire fence at the edge of the wharf. There is also one teacher supervising the children. The Steam Packet Inn and the Customs House can be seen in the background.Pevensey; Melbourne can be seen clearly written on the paddle steamer. Situated at 965 Main Road adjacent to the Eltham Railway Station, the Country Art Store was originally a hairdresser and Tattersalls agency In 1968 Pam Robinson and Caroline Shenton opened a small shop on the corner of Main Road and Napoleon Street. Four months later a damaged fire hyrdant flooded the store and ruined all their stock. The pair moved to the former hardresser shop at 965 Main Road, adjacent to the Eltham Railway Station, opposite the Stationmaster's house and opened the Country Art Store and adjacent gallery. At the time the only other shop selling pottery was the Potters Cottage in Warrandyte. During the 1970s the gallery was the Wiregrass Gallery. In 1993, after 25 years operating the Country Art Store, the pair decided to sell up and move to warmer climates. During the course of their business a number of craft shops and galleries opened and closed in Eltham. One such shop was Bimbadeen, next to Ansell and Muir's chicken shop opposite Eltham Lower Park. That business run by Don Brown, then a local artist was taken over as River Clay run by Leo Haanappel and Coeny Dommers but ultimately sat in a flood plain and was demolished. When the Country Art Store became available in 1993, Leo Haanappel and Coeny Dommers took it over. The premises became Platform 3095 cafe around 2015.Old Property at Eltha Station E.
