These are visitor’s cards for the Warrnambool Boomerang Club. This club was a social club that was formed some time in 1934 and continued until at least 1956. By the late 1930s there were nearly 200 members who took part in social activities that included balls, dances, dinners, Christmas parties and picnics. Profits from the Boomerang Club functions were donated to local charitable organizations. These are significant items as examples of visitor’s tickets from the Boomerang Club, an important social group in Warrnambool in the mid 20th century. These are two visitor’s cards for the Warrnambool Boomerang Club. One is a pink card and the other is cream-coloured. CWA Tawonga 1946 - 1988 collection of its written history. The C.W.A. aimed to improve the health, welfare and education of women and children in the country. The book gives examples of all activities the members were involved in over the years and their involvement with other CWA groups in the North East of Victoria. Roger Herbert Mitchell attended Ballarat College 1951-1956. Recipient of a Council Scholarship, HV McKay Scholarship for 6 years and Boarding Scholarship. Sport and co-curricular activities included: 2nd Crew 1956, Minervan & Library Committee 1955, House Prefect, and school drama productions. Roger was a Cadet Cpl 1954, Sgt 1955 and Under Officer 1956. Provides significant detail regarding the size and role of Cadet program within the school. The Ladies Harbour Light Guild was formed between 1905 and 1906. A popular activity hosted by the LHLG were picnics for annual Celebrations such as the festive season. There are a number of small similar photographs which suggest this outing may have been one of the first picnics held in 1905 at Brighton. A box of historical slides belonging to Greensborough Primary School was scanned and digitised by Greensborough Historical Society as part of the School's 140th anniversary celebrations. Slides cover the years 1978-1982, mainly school camps and activities within the school grounds. Some slides were unnamed and samples were uploaded to Facebook, where past students were able to identify people and places. The woman in the reddish outfit in three of the photos is Martina Neale, who was the driving force behind a group of volunteers who revegetated a part of Fergusons Paddock. On this occasion, most of the work was done by a small group of secondary school students, who chose this activity from one of several options involving community groups. The Tawonga branch of the C.W.A. was formed on the 7th Feb. 1946. They had 45 members by the end of the year. A scrap book (KVHS 0750) exists with a list of names of members for each year up to 1988 and articles from the newspaper. The Tawonga branch often combined activities with the other branches in the Kiewa Valley. As the photograph on the front page of this pamphlet suggests, the ‘Home & Family Week’ activities may have been inspired by the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth in England. The program for the week included exhibitions, speakers, musical entertainments, a church service, children’s films, public meetings, discussion groups and a youth tea. A committee was formed in Warrnambool to organize the week’s events and the Chairman was Mr Lindsay Anderson.This program is of interest because it gives us details of an event that was staged in Warrnambool in 1953 – Home & Family Week. Many of the speakers and chairpersons for the activities of Home & Family Week were well-known people in the Warrnambool community at the time – Dr H. Holmes, Edith Jacobs, Rupert Philpott, Mrs J.O. Tait, Dr Brauer, Mr E. Willison, Arnold Westgarth etc. This is a pamphlet - one sheet folded in two to make six pages. It has the program for Home & Family Week held in Warrnambool in 1953. The program has blue printing on a beige background. The front page has a photograph in blue and white tonings of Queen Elizabeth, Prince Philip and their two children. In 1960 and 1961, the International House Students Club organised a float for the Dandenong "Pageant for Progress", to garner support for the Building Fund to contribute to development of a new wing. The Women's Auxiliaries assisted in preparing the float, which also participated in Melbourne's Moomba festival. This letter from Mr L.R. Killeen, Secretary and Manager of National Capital Development Commission, is an invitation to Robin Boyd to join the judging panel for a competition for a memorial to activities of the Royal Australian Air Force over the past 50 years. The letter also discusses financial recompense. The background information concerning the project was enclosed, but has not been found in Robin Boyd's papers here.

The Engineer's Department of the former City of Kew had an extensive collection of photograph of sites in Kew requiring documentation to inform public works. It also kept images of engineering practice in other parts of Melbourne, and overseas, that could be used as models for local activity. Many of these photographs (and plans) were donated to our collection in the 1980s. A number of the photographs are annotated, either on the image itself or on the reverse.This photograph, and others sourced from the City Engineer's Department of the former City of Kew, qualifies as an important record of local streets, public works, street beautification, and engineering techniques of the period. Original black and white photographic positive of automobiles and buildings in Denmark Street, Kew, immediately before the road enters Kew Junction. On the left is McKeon Motors and a retailer of Insulwool, while in the distance is the pharmacy on the corner of High Street and Princess Street (later demolished during the widening of Kew Junction). Notable are the bluestone guttering and what appears to be vacant land on the apex of the triangle of land bounded by High Street South, Denmark Street and Barkers Road. This site was the original location of O'Shaughnessy's 'Kew Hotel', and after the destruction by fire of the latter, the location of a service station.
