He was killed in action on 25/7/1916 in France and is buried at Villers-Brettonneux. This medallion, called a Memorial Plaque and popularly known as a Dead Man’s Penny, was one of those given to the family of an Australian soldier who died on active service in World War One. Memorial Plaques, such as this one, were given out in the early 1920s. This medallion was presented to the family of Robert Andrew Hose. Born in Warrnambool in 1892 to George and Janet Hose, Robert Hose was a regular soldier when he enlisted in World War One in August 1914. He served on Gallipoli at Cape Helles where he was wounded but returned to his post and was promoted to corporal. In Egypt he was promoted to Sergeant and then served in France where he was awarded the Military Medal for showing courage, resourcefulness and a fine example to his men in an encounter with the enemy near Beaumetz les Cambrai. In that incident he sustained severe wounds from which he died in May 1917. He is buried in France. As well as the Military Medal he was awarded the 1914-15 Star, the British War Medal and the Victory MedalThis item is of great importance as a significant memento of World War One that was given to the family of Robert Andrew Hose following his death on active service in World War One. A set of thirteen 20 cent coins issued in 2015 to commemorate 100 years of Anzac and the First World War. Based on photos chosen from the Australian War Memorial archive, the ANZAC Official Coin Collection includes fourteen coins that have been designed and produced by the Royal Australian Mint to mark significant aspects that occurred in the First World War. Our set contains 13 coins - missing the Australian Flying Corps. There is also a folder to store the set in. The First World War themes featured in this collection include the war years, mateship, Light Horsemen, the home front, the Royal Australian Navy, Remembrance Day, Nurses, wartime animals, The Last Post, War Correspondents, Australian Flying Corps, Australian Imperial Force, the Unknown Soldier, and the Gallipoli Landing. Project was issed by the Royal Mint and supported by the Australian War Memorial, Newscorp, Westpac and Legacy. A typed copy of a speech by Legatee Brian Armstrong delivered as the Savige Memorial Oration at the Federal Conference of Legacy Clubs in Canberra on 22 October 1954. It is an account of Savige's life, his war service and his role in Legacy. Legatee Armstrong was a good friend of Savige. The moving address described General Savige's life and service career, and how he formed Legacy in 1923 at the suggestion of his former Commander, Major General Sir John Gellibrand. He said at the time of his death the late General had been a member of Legacy for 30 years, and had been chosen to represent Legacy at the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth. Following the Second World War he held many important posts, one of the most notable being Co-ordinator of Demobilisation. Legatee Armstrong told the conference that if a memorial to the founder of Legacy was required, they only had to look around themselves. A photo of artist Clifton Pugh beside one of his paintings. The white paper label says: "Artist Clifton Pugh kindly allowed Legacy to display his Gallipoli paintings at then launch of Legacy Week. The paintings were commissioned expressly for the Australian War Memorial. It was the first time these paintings were on display in Melbourne." Clifton Pugh was appointed official war artist for the 75th Anniversary of the Gallipoli landing at Anzac Cove in 1990. The photo featured in the 1990 President's Report that was published with the 1990 Annual report. The caption said: 'The late Clifton Pugh at the official launch luncheon of "Legacy Week". ' The article went on to say: 'Our official luncheon to launch "Legacy Week" was opened by the Lieutenant Governor Sir John Young and sponsored by the ANZ Bank. At the luncheon the late Clifton Pugh had generously displayed some of his Gallipoli paintings which had been commissioned expressly for the Australian War Memorial. it was the first time these paintings had been on display in Melbourne.' A bronze bust was erected in Morwell to honour Legacy Founder Sir Stanley Savige. It was unveiled on 31 August 2006 and Legatee Bill Rogers was invited to perform the unveiling. It was located in a new town square between Commercial Road and Princes Drive. A plaque was added to the memorial in 2010. Pleasant Creek Cemetery. Part of a collection of Photographs by Mr. O.G. Armstrong as commissioned by the Shire of Stawell for the Inter-colonial and Paris Exhibition in Melbourne in 1866. The site of the Pleasant Creek Cemetery was proclaimed on October the 14th, 1861. Prior to that, a cemetery existed on ‘One Tree Hill’ where burials were made as early as 1854.
