This booklet tells the story of the establishment of the Allansford Presbyterian church. First services were held in a Mr. Irvine’s barn at Wangoom by Rev Andrew Begg. The first church was built shortly afterwards towards the end of 1861. The first minister was Rev Robert Sutherland (1862-1876). The booklet gives a brief outline of history of the ministers who followed. Foreign missionaries are mentioned as are the men of the Kirk session. 1.Robert Dennis (Roy) Kelly (1890-1943) was the son of stockbroker, Michael Peter Kelly. He served on the Western Front in WW1 as a member of the 3rd Divisional Train, Army Service Corps (10874) and following his service , Roy became a stockbroker. At the time of his death he is listed as a stockbroker and grazier. 2. Kew Historical Society has a large costume collection, including examples of formal wear, day wear, underwear, and protective clothing. As the Society has been located at the Kew Library since 1987, it uses display space within the library to mount small displays such as this display of aprons and pinafores. Larger exhibitions are typically held at the Kew Court House. Displays and exhibitions are mounted by the collections group; on this occasion, by Margaret Robinson, Robert Baker, and Jan Walker. Witnessing the Japanese surrender and signing of Peace Document on Morotai 1945.During WWII Vern Roberts was an LAC Fitter 2A (airframe) in RAAF 24 Squadron. He was stationed on Morotai at the time of the Japanese surrender. All personnel on Morotai at the time were required to attend the parade to witness the signing of the Peace Document. Vern had with him the camera his mother had given him when he left Australia to serve in the RAAF. He carried that camera and used it throughout his war service in the Northern Territory and on Morotai. Vern took the pictures of the ceremony, now on display with his camera. General Sir Thomas Blamey signed the Surrender Document on behalf of the Allied Forces.a17.1
