Munitions, Cartridge reloader
This cartridge re-loader is most likely for loading 12 gauge shotgun shells. It is not known if it was for private or military use. This cartridge re-loader has been in the collection of the Warrnambool and District Historical Society for many years but it has no known local provenance. It is an interesting relic from times past. This is a brass cartridge re-loader. It has a rectangular brass base with four brass columns supporting a rectangular top with a hollow middle. The columns of the casing are affixed with metal screws. Inside this protective casing are two cartridge-shaped brass pillars, one with a metal spike at the end and one with a small opening at the top. Both of these pillars are fixed to the base of the protective casing. Over-arching these two objects is a brass lever hinged at the end. This has a wooden handle The arm of the lever has a small protusion on the bottom which pushes into the opening of one of the pillars. Clothing. Women's black lace and satin layered skirt. Straight calf length skirt with outer layer of embroidered fine net and an inner layer of black satin. Embroidered layer has pattern of scattered flowers with lower 30 cm of dense embroidered flowers. At centre front is a vertical strip of embroidered flowers (5 cm wide). Hemline has a zig zag pattern. Foldover satin waist band (1.5 cm) with two X .8 cm satin loops attached at front and back. Functional object - Hand Siren
RVB Limited is now called Sirens and Horns and is still manufacturing sirens in Australia. A hand siren with an L shaped handle two centimetres wide and five centimetres long is attached to the base of a metal cylinder ten centimetres diameter and six centimetres long with the last two centimetres tapering to a six centimetre diameter opening which flares to a 12 centimetre opening in four centimetres. The handle is connected to a thin metal disc which vibrates when the handle is turned making a loud noise. The siren is attached to a wooden handle four centimetres by two centimetres and 21 centimetres long. It is all painted red. Jug, Souvenir Warrnambool Jug, Between 1921 and 1938
This is a souvenir jug showing an image of the boat sheds (Proudfoots) at the mouth of the Hopkins River, Warrnambool. It would have been purchased in the 1920s or 1930s. These boatsheds were erected for Thomas Proudfoot in 1885. At that time the sheds housed the boats of the local Gordon Rowing Club. This jug is of interest as an example of the type of souvenir available to tourists and locals in the Warrnambool district in the 1920s and 30s. This is a lustre ware china jug with a black handle and a black lip and black edging around the opening. The jug has a squat spherical shape and has gold colouring with an image in black and grey of the boatsheds at the mouth of the Hopkins River, Warrnambool. Household, Glass Jug, Early 20th century
This jug is decorative and attractive and may have been used on special occasions to hold water or cordial. It could also have been used as a vase. There may have been a set of glass tumblers to match the jug. This vase is retained as an excellent example of a jug used in a household in the past. It is a timeless piece and would grace any table in a house todayThis is a glass jug with a round base and a body tapering slightly to a fluted rim and opening. The handle is clear glass. Spanners are used to tighten nuts of different sizes. These spanners are large and were used on larger items eg. H.V. McKay machinery. Used by residents of the Kiewa Valley.Both spanners are straight and made of steel. The 'H.V. McKay' spanner has '824' on the back (at the 'knob' end) and has a 'knob' at one end. The other spanner has the same type of opening at each end (no knob) and has embossed '55A' on one side at one end.H. V. The Tawonga hall was used for community events eg. Dances, Balls and Debutante Balls. The dance Program was displayed for the Musicians and Dancers/Guests to be ready to dance when the music started. Traditional Ballroom dances include the Waltz, Foxtrot, Tango and Quickstep. Latin Ballroom dances include the Cha Cha, Rumba, JiveHandmade and used by residences of Tawonga and the Kiewa Valley.
