Newspaper - CENTRAL DEBORAH GOLD MINE MINING FATALITY
Newspaper article and typed copy of same, detailing the fatal accident that occurred at the mine on the 22nd January 1953, in which Herbert Hunter of Kangaroo Flat was killed. ' Hunter was working at No 16 level at a depth of 1270 feet from the surface and about 500 feet south from the shaft when a large piece of stone , estimated to wrigh about one ton, broke away. Clothing - MAGGIE BARBER COLLECTION: DARK CREAM SILK AND LACE HANDKERCHIEF, 1800's
Clothing. Deep cream silk centre piece, with scalloped edges - 18 cm x 16 cm. (Scallops 6.5 cm wide). Cream linen bobbin lace - (probably Brussells Lace) surrounds the silk-9cms deep at each corner, 3.5 cms deep at the sides. Fan shapes woven in the lace, emphasize the scalloped centrepiece. Flowers as in 11414.26 and 11414.30a and b, would suggest that this lace has been made by the same maker. Clothing. Possibly, a cardboard horse shoe shape, covered in 3 cm wide satin ribbon. On the face of the horse shoe 1.2 cm wide satin ribbon has been ruched to give a ''zig zag'' effect. A loop of the 1.2 cm wide ribbon, 20.5 cm long, would pass over the wrist. Mrs. Margot Eddy was a member of the Creswick Red Cross Society for over 40 years. Creswick Red Cross was established in 1915 after the outbreak of WWI. Mrs. Eddy received her 40 year bar in 1977; she was President of the Creswick Red Cross for 10 years up to 1975. Respirator, Anti-Gas, General Civilian, Type C1:Civilian, British. Respirator thin black rubber mask, made of a single piece folded around into a tapering tube with the join sealed by a brown cloth patch. Plain cardboard box for a respirator (also used as a carrier), inside the box is a card insert with a large hole cut in the centre, on the inside of the lid are instructions for packing a respirator (From Imperial War Museum website) The rubber has perished and the straps are no longer able to be attached to the headpiece. 12 8 38, POPPE LOT 2984 -

Badge - Woods badges, 1917 circa
These badges were almost certainly issued to Leslie Samuel Woods of Albury who enlisted 10 May 1915 having completed first year medicine at Melbourne University. He served a year at the Convalescent Hospital, Harefield UK, before being ordered home to complete his medical studies. He would have completed his studies near the end on 1918 and attempted to re-enlist but had not entered training before the Armistice. Doctor Leslie Woods was a General Practitioner in Albury till his death. He is buried in Albury Waugh Road Cemetery.Well provenanced object illustrating the WWI experience of a young Albury man.Two lapel badges pinned to a piece of paper with a handwritten notation. One is a Demobilised Soldiers badge issued to new recruits training in Australia at the time of the Armistice on 11 November 1918 or those who had enlisted but had not yet been called into camp for training, and the other a Volunteer Home Service Badge issued to employees of the Department of Defence who had volunteered for active service abroad but who had been denied due to their services being required in Australia. ."14-18 War / 'required for Home Service' / to complete medical course.
