This house, understood to have been built around 1858/59, and demolished around 1990, was situated along what is now known as the Linton-Naringhil Road. It was the home of the Rankin family - John and Catherine Rankin, and later their son Ewen and his wife Anna Rankin. The last member of the Rankin family to live there (until 1974) was Marjorie Jackson, a granddaughter of John and Catherine. It was sold to the Perry sisters, to Mr & Mrs Odlund, to Mrs Toovey Snr. and then to Mr H Billson who owned the guesthouse in 1935 - 36 when it burned to the ground.Front view close up of Genesta Guesthouse. Herbert Allan Unwin (1898-1958) lived at 171 Creek Street in 1928. In 1924 he had been listed as living at 78 Gladstone Street. After selling the Creek Street property, he moved to 629 Hargreaves Street. Wooden Home no. 1 Seaby Street built for Luke Kinsella. Luke Kinsella was Thomas Kinsella's younger brother. He worked as a miner turned publican and investor. The Boardman family were local business people in Sunbury, who were storekeepers and also produced the local newspaper. Their original building was in Brook Street near the railway station but they later located their business further down in Brook Street on the corner of O'Shanassy Street. The original postcards in this series (2013.002 to 2013.018) were generously loaned to Williamstown Botanic Gardens by a private collector for copying. The logo in the middle of the words ‘POST CARD’ indicates the card was printed by M. Schulz in Prague. Schulz was a long-established company from Prague and printed postcards for customers from worldwide. Schulz printed in photo-chromolithography. The Curator’s lodge, designed by the Town Surveyor, HV Champion, was constructed in 1907 following the re-organisation of the north-east corner with the demolition of the old curator's cottage and erection of new gates. The postcards are evidence of the interest the gardens held as a subject for postcard publishers. The text and images provide a snapshot into fashions, social interests and concerns of the time. The professionally produced images provide a pictorial history of Gardens including changing planting styles, various structures and features of the Gardens eg the aviary, cannons, the fountain, the second Curator’s Lodge and gates. The images offer an opportunity to compare garden vistas with the present day. The card also demonstrates how postcards were used as a method of contact in contrast to the contemporary use as souvenirs. A colour image of a house (the Curators lodge) behind a fence with two children sitting on it. There are two large Cordylines, one in the forefront of the image standing in lawn and surrounded by pink flowers, and one closer to the house. The house is brown timber with two brick chimneys and has a green corrugated iron roof with gables over the windows at the front and side.Front: ‘The Lodge, / Williamstown Gardens’. This railway station building was erected in 1887 and closed in 1990. Now a new chapter begins with a newly restored station building amd platform that re-opened in October 2010 to be used by the Wycheproof Community.The Wycheproof Railway station constructed by Hossack & Brown in 1887 is Heritage listed and is on the Government Buildings Register. This photo is one of only a few available of the early days of the Station.The complex is historically significant at a State level AHC A.4. The Railway station contains significant detailing such as in the turned timber posts and overall composition. ‘Reno’, stood on the east side of St John’s Parade. Its earliest recorded owner was the architect Samuel Cocking who lived there from c.1865 until his death in 1888. The original landholding was bordered by Cotham Road, Glenferrie Road, Wellington Street, and Charles Street. The southern portion of this land included a fine orchard, with many imported trees. The old summer house, at first in the orchard, was later removed to the house garden. The MMBW Detail Plan No.1576 (1904) shows the remaining portion of the original land holding, including a semi-circular pathway at the front, and garden features such as an aviary, a fountain and grotto, and a fernery. The garden including rare plants supplied by Baron Von Mueller, surrounds the cottage in a tangled frenzy. This building was owned and lived in from about 1918 by Mrs. Jane Craine and from 1939 by Mrs. Violet Shepherd. Mrs. Craine had a confectionery store, which she ran with the assistance of her daughter Lottie, and under Mrs. Shepherd it became a greengrocery as well as a confectionery store. It was afterwards used as a private residence, and for a brief period in 2016-2017 it was the site of the 'Linton Bazaar'. Note: A photograph in the LDHS collection (Registration no. 2017-230), understood to have been taken c.1939, shows a substantially different facade. This is a photograph of one of the many stone ruins of buildings which can be seen in the Sunbury district and surrounding areas. The weatherboard house is one of the six weatherboard cottages which were built on the east side of O'Shanassy Street in the early 1900s. It has been listed in the Heritage Study in 1998.
