This is one of a pair of paintings by artist Mike McCrea, created when he was in Warrnambool in 1985. The painting was framed and sold by Patana Galleries, Paton Place, Manly Vale, NSW. It was later purchased by athe company of Master Mariners of Australia and who donated the pair to Flagstaff Hill. The pair of paintings are significant for their association with steamships and the Master Mariners of Australia group. The paintings represent a time in local history when many steamships were sailing the coast and transporting passengers and goods.Painting; timber framed oil painting with the image of a cargo steamship off the coast of Warrnambool. Photograph of a painting by Mrs Fonce Kerr that was donated to Legacy. It was exhibited at the Legacy Widows' Arts and Crafts Exhibition in 1995. The article mentions Mrs Kerr was the ex-President of the Waverley Legacy Widows' Club. 'The picture is titled "Daddy's Home" and depicts the lower half of a serviceman dressed in khaki trousers and combat boots. Hugging his leg is a little girl in a blue dress. Words really don't describe the situation - seeing is better. It is a nostalgic depiction of considerable meaning to all members of our Legacy family - widows, dependents and Legatees. Mrs Kerr has generously presented the picture to Legacy - it will hang in the First Floor Dining Room.' Bill Delecca was born in Bendigo, Victoria in 1929. A Bendigo-based teacher and painter, he has exhibited widely in the local area from 1951, including a retrospective in Bendigo Art Gallery, 1990. He has twice won the Bendigo Art Prize for watercolour and his work is represented in galleries and private collections throughout Australia and overseas. Instrumental in the establishment of degree courses in Art at Bendigo College of Advanced Education, he is also the author of an Education Department report to the Australia Council, 1987.Oil painting. "Alexander Colquhoun [Herald art critic 1914-1922 and feature writer for the Age 1926-1941] ... took private students in the first decade of the century, and one of these was Winifred Miles, who after her marriage in 1910 lived the remainder of her life in Ringwood. ... (She) began by doing charcoal studies of animals when she was in Balranald, but in later years moved to oils and then watercolours, travelling around Ringwood to find places to paint by means of a pony-driven governess-cart.
