Functional Object - Tramcar - materials
1330.1 - Approx 110m long section of a compressor armature end binding from the compressor of tram No. 40. The binding section consists of string which has been impregnated with insulating varnish. Located between the end of the armature and the commutator and retains the mica core. Small pieces of mica on the inside. Has a circular shape inherent from its use. - Not numbered. 1330.2 - approx. 25mm long section strip of red silicone tape with glass fibre reinforcement - 25mm wide with a plastic separation strip. Supplied by XLNT Enterprises - see fax on W.A.Doubleday files dated 5/1/2000. 1330.3 - as above, but two sections of this tape joined together as a sample. 1330.2 used to wrap the armature - two layers applied cut to be about 22mm wide instead of 25mm - repair done on 3/3/2000. Black and white photo going to sepia toned, of about 11 W2's and many motor vehicles on Princes Bridge Melbourne, taken from the tower on Flinders Street station building, during the late 1930's. Many people on bridge, traffic jam of motor vehicles on the bridge itself. Note buildings at the Batman avenue terminus. Can see a tram trolley pole of a tram in Batman Avenue. No curve from Batman Ave. into Swanston St. At least two of the trams do not have route number boxes. Yields information about the way the signing of the agreement between the City of Ballarat and the Ballarat Tramway Preservation Society and the parties involved.Newspaper clipping from The Courier, 25/11/1971, titled "Agreement signed for Tourist Tram Depot" of the signing of the agreement between the City of Ballaarat and the Ballarat Tramway Preservation Society the previous day. Included in the photo are the Mayor, Cr. J.A. Chisholm, city solicitor - Hugh Morrow, President of the BTPS Hal Cain, Frank Hanrahan and Secretary Richard Gilbert. Notes various aspects of the agreement, tramcar 14 and the location of the depot building. Newspaper cutting has been mounted onto a sheet of quarto paper with 4 punch holes on left side.
