Axedale is a town in Victoria, Australia. It is located on the McIvor Highway, in the City of Greater Bendigo, east of Bendigo. It was surveyed and proclaimed in 1861. At the 2021 census, Axedale had a population of 984. The town is nestled alongside the Campaspe River which feeds out of Lake Eppalock. It has a golf course, tennis courts, a school, a pub and a convenience store/petrol station. Although Presbyterians held religious services prior to 1854 it, was not till that year that Dr Nish arrived in Bendigo. It is known that Dr Nish preached to the shepherds in Axedale, long before the church was built, but where is not known. The foundation stone for the church was lain on September 30th, 1868. Ceramic - Child's tea set, 1/10/2024
Irene Mildred Wharton (1888 - 1983) the only child of Thomas Llewellyn Wharton and his wife Mildred, lived most of her early life in Bendigo until her marriage in 1911. Her father worked for The Bendigo Independent news newspaper as compositor and printer until his retirement in 1913 from lead poisoning. Apparently, printer's ink contained lead in those days, and he had health problems from a build up of lead in his system. Child's teaset made of China - originally belonging to Mildred Wharton; used by three generations. Tea set has blue and green leaves on a white background. There are no maker's marks. The tea set consists of: 1 tea pot and lid 1 sugar bowl and lid 5 small cups and saucers 1 small cake plate (for cakes / biscuits) 1 small bowl for jam / creamtea set, wharton, cambria, barkly street, bendigo independent, lead poisoning, compositor, printer -

Peter White Bray(28/2/1871-24/12/1958) was the son of John Bray and Catherine Hamilton Innes. John and Catherine had a total of 12 children. Another child was Edith May Bray (1883-27/5/1957) who married Harry Gee in 1904. Their son Harry Herbert was born in 1906 so this photo would date c. 1907-8 when Harry Herbert was pictured with his Uncle Peter at the age of about 18 months. Peter never married and is buried with his sister Amy at Eaglehawk.
