"Otira" was built in 1887 for Mr. Henry Berry, owner of a large wholesale grocery business. In 1923, the property was acquired by the Methodist Church for use as a home mission training college. Rev. John Allen Manton (1807 - 1864) was born in Biggleswade, Bedfordshire. He was appointed missionary to Australia in 1830. In 1833 he was appointed first chaplain at Port Arthur penal settlement. President of Horton College, first Secretary of the Australasian Wesleyan Conference, President of Conference in 1857. T G Allen was born 07/06/1890 and died 10/03/1970. He was ordained at Wilston Qld. in 1921. T G Allen served at Gympie 1921, Amidale NSW 1932, Eastwood NSW 1937, St. John's Essendon Vic 1943-1954 and Mowbranton Qld. 1955.F15.1 and F15.2 black and white portrait photographs of a Presbyterian minister with white borders.
