Medal, Centenary of Melbourne 1835 Commemorative Medallion, 1834
White metal medal issued to commemorate Melbourne's centenary 1934-35. This medal was given out to Victorian school children; 325,600 white metal medals were struck. There were also a few VIP pieces in other metals, including two in gold. The medal references Portland, the location of Victoria's first settlement. The Henty brothers, entrepreneur farmers and whalers, established the state's first permanent European settlement in Portland in 1834. Melbourne was established the following year by a party of settlers led by John Batman.White metal medal. Medal, silver. with hole and ring at the top. Medal - Medal, Royal Visit of Queen Elizabeth II, c. 1954
Commemorative medal commissioned by the Victorian state government as a souvenir of the Royal Visit by Queen Elizabeth II and the Duke of Edinburgh to Victoria in 1954. The medal was presented to all Victorian school children. It was struck by Stokes & Sons of Melbourne. The Queen and Prince Philip visited Victoria from 24 February to 9 March 1954. The first reigning monarch to tour Australia, she arrived in Sydney on 3 February 1954 and departed the country from Fremantle on 1 April 1954. The Royal party visited all the capital cities apart from Darwin, and over 70 country towns.Bronze medal, hanging from a rectangular bar. The obverse of the medal features profile portraits of the Queen and Prince Philip. Cupro-nickel medal commissioned by the Commonwealth of Australia to commemorate the Australian Bicentenary in 1988, designed by Michael Meszaros and M. Tracey and minted by the Royal Australian Mint in Canberra. This medal was presented to school children to commemorate the Australian Bicentenary in 1988. The obverse was designed by Melbourne artist Michael Meszaros and depicts school children climbing steps with the Southern Cross in the sky and the word 'EDUCATION' below. The reverse, designed by M.
