The Northern District School of Nursing opened in 1950 in to address the issues around nurse recruitment, training and education that had previously been hospital based. The residential school was to provide theoretical and in-house education and practical training over three years. The students would also receive practical hands-on training in the wards of associated hospitals. The Northern District School of Nursing operated from Lister House, Rowan Street, Bendigo. Redruth Gaol was constructed in 1856. It was the first South Australian gaol to be built outside Adelaide. The goal was built to house 30 prisoners (male and female). It closed in 1897 at which time the prisoners were transferred to Gladstone Gaol. The former Redruth Gaol was renovated and started a new life as a Girls' Reformatory in 1897 and closed in 1922. In the early stage of the Australian Young Christian Workers Movement the male and female members were separated into NCGM and YCW Boys. Sports Clubs in Kew in the final decades of the 19th century and in the early 20th century were often umbrella organisations with facilities for a number of sports. Typically in Kew, this included teams in lawn bowls, tennis and croquet. The Kew Bowling Club was formed in 1880 while the privately owned Auburn Heights Recreation Club was opened in 1904. By 1998, the two Clubs decided to amalgamate at the Auburn Heights site in Barkers Road, forming the Kew Heights Sports Club. The combined club was itself taken over by the Melbourne Cricket Club in 2012 becoming MCC Kew Sports Club. In 2017 MCC Kew closed and its landholding was subsequently sold to Carey Baptist Grammar School. Both the Kew and Auburn Heights Clubs assembled important collections. These historically significant and large collections were donated to the Society in 2020. After a quiet period, interest in bookplates in Australia began to increase in the early 1970s, Entrepreneurial art and book collectors such as Edwin Jewell and others commissioned multiple Bookplate designs from a range of well known fine artists. At a 1997 meeting in Melbourne of the Ephemera Society of Australia Edwin Jewell and others announced the formation of the Australian Bookplate Society. The society was instrumental in promoting the art of the bookplate through establishment of the Australian Bookplate Design competition. The blue and black printed ticket was issued and used for the 2nd & 3rd days of the 1973 Sunbury Pop Festival. The Festival as held on the property of George Duncan at Diggers Rest on the banks of Jacksons Creek. It was held over the 3 days of the Australia Day Weekend in January. The 'smiley' stamp on the back of the ticket was used as a "passout" check. The tickets were collected by Nicholas Hall who worked as a Security Officer at one of the gates.A blue and black cardboard ticket printed for the 1973 Sunbury Pop Festival. In the early 19th century, infant baptismal gowns worn by male and female infants began to be modelled on dresses worn by adult women. Gowns were typically made of fine white linen or cotton, and often trimmed with tucks, lace, whitework embroidery, and other handwork. The Kew Historical Society's collection includes over fifteen christening gowns dating from the 19th and 20th centuries.A mid-nineteenth century christening (baptismal) gown, constructed of sturdy white cotton featuring a long skirt, high neck and long sleeves. It includes in excess of 1400 entries with the latitude and longitude for each town, numbers males and females in the town, and the number of occupied dwellings (where available). For many of these settlements the only visible trace of them today is in the census results collected by the fledgling governments of Colonial Victoria. This came as part of a large collection of photos from Eric Boardman. Originally catalogued by R Waters on 12.02.1988. There are 3 copies of the original in black & white 20.5 cm x 25.5 cm format. According to information in the supplementary file from Bob Cahill who is the grandson of JF Cahill and son of Malachi Cahill, the identification of the photo is as follows: L to R (standing): James, John Francis (father), John, Malachi; L to R (seated): Mary / Margaret nee Ryan (mother), Polly (Mary), Michael (Mick) and ? (not specified) Margaret. NB/ Nora (Annie) who ran the Ball Court Hotel is missing from the photo. Other details: John Francis Cahill was a blacksmith & bootmaker and thought to be English; he married Mary or Margaret Ryan prior to coming to Sunbury. He built the Ball Court Hotel in 1854. (See 'Bulla Bulla'.) Nora (Annie) married a McGrath; Margaret married a Breen; James did not marry; Mary (Polly) married Justin Ford, Shire President in 1917. Malachi (born in 1878) married Mary Jane English. She was aged forty at the time of marriage & was originally from Ballarat. She worked at 'The Hill'. Malachi was a railway worker & died travelling on a train. Princess Juliana and Prince Bernard married in 1937 prior to the Princess becoming Queen in 1948.The fact that this item was brought to Australia with a migrant family indicates the affection in which the Royal Family was held by many Dutch people.Rectangular tile depicting a leafy tree loaded with oranges. Under it are four young people - two male and two female. The main colours are green on a greyish background. Orange accents appear throughout the clothing. An orange banner reads 1937-1962. Below the illustration is the motto: "Doen kunnen we alles maar dan ook alleen allen samen." (We can do everything but only together).
