The uniform belonged to CAPT GLADYS MOLE VFX17199 AAMC 2nd AIF. Refer 1901.4 for Service History. Items were all numbered 215.01 from a previous institution. See also Reg No 1899 & 1900.2P.WRANC .1) Jacket. Grey, fine wool tailored jacket & skirt. Jacket has full belt fastened with press studs. Front fastened with military buttons, also pocket flaps & 2 buttons on each sleeve. Shoulder epaulettes of dark brown felt with a button 'Australia' badge & 3 captain's pips. Colour patch on each sleeve - brown square on light grey square with central angled blue bar. Service ribbons on right breast. Upper back section & fronts lined with rayon. Hanging tab centre back neck. .2) Shirt. Long sleeved cream cotton shirt with tail, epaulette tabs on shoulders fastened with a button. Front button fastening semi stiff collar. .3) Skirt. Fastens at side with hooks & eyes & 1 button on waist band. .4) Tie. Made of dark brown crepe with silver Rising Sun badge pinned to it. .5) Hat. Grey/green felt velour with band of brown edged both sides with narrow stripes of pale grey & red. Unlined with petersham sweat band & black hat elastic double chin strap. Slouch hat and Uniform jacket belonging to Edwin James JONES No 3511 AIF. Refer 1367.5 for his service history. The hat was manufactured in 1918 by Dalter Lucas & Sons Bury, UK. This pack was carried on the wearer's back, supported by two straps worn over the shoulder. These packs were used by military personnel to carry personal equipment items whilst in the field. This pack type is square in shape and has additional straps for attaching to webbing. The front of the pack has 'NX 83432 G Siddaway' written in black. The yoke was made by a farmer in Silesia for his daughter to use on the family farm. When the family migrated to Australia the yoke was brought with them. It was used for carrying buckets of milk, vegetables, water or other farm supplies. It has been used by various family members until recent times.Woman's agricultural yoke. Timber body carved to fit the neck and shoulders of the wearer with round extensions either end. Leather straps are suspended from slots in these round extensions close to the end and are held into the timber with metal nails. One strap has been repaired and joined with brass rivets. A metal hook hangs on the bottom of each leather strap and these are held in place by a brass rivet.yoke, silesia, milking -

Bottom section of each leg adorned with crocheted lace and two pin tucks around bottom of the legs. Top back of garment has three "Mother of Pearl" buttons and narrow 8 mm wide shoulder cross reference to KVHS 0249 and KVHS 0240 straps. This uniform belonged to Sapper Hughes 3795948 of the Royal Australian Engineers Corps. By the date on the uniform, it is assumed that he served C 1968.This uniform has significance as an example of uniform worn by soldier ranks for daily work and dress parades.Khaki coloured short jacket with lapels, and waist band which has strap and buckle on right hand side. There are two patch pockets on the front have a box pleat down the middle and a V shaped pocket flap at the top, closing with a hidden button. The shoulder epaulets each have a plain khaki coloured button at the neck edge.The sleeves are cuffed fastened with a button however the right button is missing.There are red patches on each shoulder with navy blue text. The back of the jacket has darts stitched at the waist and at shoulder level. There are four khaki buttons down the front. Clothing. Cream lace camisole with fabric inserts. Fabric inserts have cut out flower embroidery. Front opening with centre panel of lace fastened on RHS with four press studs - two at neckline, two at waistline. Two front panels have rectangular fabric inserts on either side of the centre lace panel. Fabric panel at back extends under arms to front of bodice. No side seams. Waist has 4 cm lace border tapered slightly to waist. Wide U shaped neckline at front and back. Yoke made up of triangular lace pieces that join at the shoulders to from shoe string straps at the top of the shoulders. Scalloped edges along neckline. Sheer bri-nylon, over a heavier weight bri-nylon lining. Sleeveless and with a scoop neckline. A braid of padded flowers and leaves outlines the neckline and forms the straps that pass over the shoulders. This braid also forms a “yoke” from which the main body of the nightgown falls in soft gathers. Outer bri-nylon layer is edged with a one cm wide lace edging. Price on swing tag: 65 shillings. Negligee with double layer of soft pink bri-nylon. Scooped neckline with a 6cm wide yoke. Yoke has a braid of padded flowers and leaves that outlines the neckline that is appliquéd as is the matching nightgown. Two pearl buttons fasten the yoke at the centre front. Full length front opening. Double layer short “puff” sleeves are gathered at the shoulder and have an elastic casing at lower edge. Outer layer of sleeve is longer than lining, giving a soft “puff” effect. Dress is an empire line shape with A line skirt. Bodice has two side darts and darts from the empire waist line. Below the waist line the skirt has two inverted pleats. The front has a wide scooped neckline with narrow shoulders. The back of the bodice has two darts from the waist line and the skirt has two darts from the waistline. The dress has a back opening from the neckline with a 43cm zipper. Set-in long sleeves are bell shaped to the wrist with a 17cm slash at the front of the sleeve. History has it that the origins of the Slouch Hat began with the Victorian Mounted Rifles; a hat of similar design had been worn in South Africa by the Cape Mounted Rifles for many years before 1885. The design of the Victorian Mounted Rifle hat originated from headgear of native police in Burma where Lieutenant-Colonel Tom Price had recognised its value. The Victorian hat was an ordinary bush felt hat turned up on the right side. The intention of turning up the right side of the hat was to ensure it would not be caught during the drill movement of “shoulder arms” from “order arms”. The Slouch Hat became standard issue headdress in 1903 and its brim position was mostly standardised. The slouch hat became a famous symbol of the Australian fighting man during World War One and continued to be worn throughout World War Two.
