Demonstrates how ESCo managed Weekly tickets during the late 1920's and yields information about the way the system was arranged. The source of the ticket, NSW tramways is significant in that it was obtained by them as a sample.One penny or 1d paper ticket, ESCo, Ballarat Tramways, printed on fawn paper, No. D3339. Ticket has up and down directions, conditions of use, not issued on public holidays, special cars or railway picnic days. Front of the ticket (with the number), has it available for: Bridge and Drummond St Sturt St and Macarthur St Macarthur St (Junction Wendouree Parade and Gardens) On the rear - the ticket is made available for use by a child in the following: Orphanage and Grenville St Mt Pleasant and Grenville St Bridge St and Service St {stop along Sturt St West} Bridge St and Macarthur (via Fraser St) {Alan Bradley advised 29/6/14 by email, former name of Ripon St North once it crossed over Mair St heading north. - see note below} Sturt St and Gregory St (via Lydiard) Hello Warren, The View Point line leaves Sturt St and turns into Ripon St. It crosses Mair St, does a dogleg, and went into Fraser St. then past the Powerhouse. The descriptions of the horse tram lines to be constructed by the BTCo, and the electric lines to be constructed by the ESCo, specify that the lines run along Ripon and Fraser Sts. Route 15 - Sturt St. West to and from City. Not dated, but probably c1975, as Davis have moved to their "then" new depot in Norman St. Ballarat. Timetable gives times for departure to and the terminals, notes on intermediate times, notes on variations to standard arrangements and location of terminals. On Sunday, the bus served the Botanical Gardens area and route 15A, which served Lake Wendouree by Gardens Kiosk. Has a Davis bus logo - poppet head and bus. Was designed to be folded in the centre. Image of the intersection of Sturt and Lydiard Streets looking north towards Lydiard St. Photograph shows a horse drawn tram turning from Sturt into Lydiard St North, while another crosses Lydiard St, heading west along the north side of the street. Photo shows the Post Office, the Robert Burns statue, and the large arc lamp in the middle of the intersection. Two copies held. Letter - from Wal Larsen to Wal Jack re the Tenterfield railway, Wal Larsen, Aug 1945
Wal Jack had an extensive range of correspondents throughout Australia and the world who often prepared extensive notes and records for him. This letter from Wal Larsen of Bright, dated 16 Aug 1945 describes a trip to Tenterfield, notes on crews, their hats, station layouts and detailed map. With the letter is a plan of the station layouts of the West Tamworth to Barraba line dated 6-10-45. These notes are based on a report prepared for the Board re the donation of materials collected by Wal Jack and donated to the BTM in 2011. The following notes are general across the collection unless written for a specific Ballarat item. Has proven association with Wal Jack and tramway developments within Australasia until 1964 and given their extent particular significance. Features West Australian trams.Grey covered photograph album with word "Snapshots" on front cover, tied together with a grey cord, light brown paper inside covers holding some 19 sheets of card on which photos have been mounted using photo corners of various types, captions in blue or black ink. Has some 126 black and white photographs including some postcards. Has photos of various locations and lines within Perth, includes works trams, trolley buses, arranged by tramcar class in some places. Also has some Kalgoorlie and Leonora electric trams and Derby horse tram. Includes some tickets and one newspaper clipping re the closure of the Perth system.
