Harper & Climas Bottle. Clear glass bottle with neck broken off and missing. Base is 8 cm in diameter. Height is 23 cm. A large amount of writing is moulded into the bottle along with a pictorial representation of a poppet head. The word ''Registered '' is superimposed on the poppet head. Prior to the election of female Councillors and Mayors in the 1960’s, the Lady Mayoress role was one of the few ways women could officially undertake civic duties. Mayoresses made important contributions to their local communities through their charity work and as ambassadors for their region on a state and federal level. They also undertook some Mayoral duties on occasions when their husband was unavailable. Mayoress Vains was born Maud Anne Norris and she married Ernest Morton Vains in 1903. Ernest Vains entered council in November 1922 and was a member of the City council from 1922 - 1926. Frederick Henry Stevens (1861 - 22/1/1931) Frederick was the son of Thomas and Margaret Wiseman. He was a cooper at the Kent Brewery Company in Bendigo. He was an early member of the City Fire Brigade and was their lieutenant in 1886 when the brigade presented him with a crockery set to mark the occasion of his recent marriage to Elizabeth Jane Hills. He competed successfully in various fire brigade competitions. When he died at the age of 69 he was living in Northcote.Two photographs of F. H. Stevens in uniform of the Bendigo Fire Squad, undated. Cream booklet titled Jubilee Souvenir Zenith Lodge Ancient Free and Accepted Masons of Victoria. 1866 - 1916. No 1133 - No 52. Title is inside an embossed oval rope tied at each side. Various embossed symbols surround the oval rope. A blue cord is sewn to hold the pages together with a staple. A Roll of Honour is printed inside the front cover under two flags, a Union Jack and another one like the Australian flag but the blue behind the Southern Cross is red.
