Newspaper clipping and photograph provides two stories about Ballarat Tramways following the last tram on 19/9/1971: 1 - "Start on the removal of the tram lines" - with a photo of welder K Drever of the CRB cutting rails in Sturt St. 2 - A piece, headed "Ballarat to blame for loss of trams?" quoting Mr N R White, SEC Chairman about the lack of willingness for Ballarat residents to use the trams, at the civic reception the previous day. Photo shows Geelong 38 south bound to Belmont and welding truck - Moorabool St between Myers and McKillop Streets. The welding with the power supply from the overhead would most likely be repairing a broken joint. One of a set of photos was taken between 15/2/1956 and 3/3/1956 when services operated only between Belmont and North before the final closure of the Belmont route on 25/31956 and that bogie tram 31 is not shown on the board, having gone to Ballarat on 15/2/1956 - see item 5554. The document looks at the costs of operating trams including reconstruction, trolley-buses, and petrol buses in Ballarat. Dated 7/10/1932. Considers the costs of tramway reconstruction - the minimal work needed (88500 pounds), current ESCo traffic expenses and income, cost of a trolley bus system including 25 buses and road pavement (100,450 pounds) and 25 petrol buses including costs of scrapping the existing per way and overhead (64,450 pounds). Concluded that reinstatement of the system along the lines of that of Bendigo was the best option. Yields information about the reconstruction of track at Hospital Corner and the way tram services were arranged and the corner itself.Negative and Digital image of the Wal Jack Ballarat Negative file of No. 35 crossing Sturt St while trackwork is being undertaken to replace diamond crossing at Hospital corner. The tram has the destination of Lydiard St North and is proceeding to Drummond St North to reverse. Based on Reg Item 5623, the work was done June 1951. In the background is H. E.
