Milking Stool
Used by the Estoppey family, Swiss emigrants, at Briagolong. Three and four-legged milking stools were standard equipment in early dairies, where cows were milked by hand. Similar stools were used in the home for informal seating. Wooden milking stool with a square top of axe-dressed hardwood and four wooden legs that fit through holes in the seat. This pipe belonged to Archibald Kerr (1827-1904).He married Jane Mitchell. They were both born at Ballater. They came to Australia 1852. He seleced land at Addington and had 8 sons and 3 daughters. Archibald and sons selected land at Thalia. Owing to dry years they returned to Addington, except James and William.Bowl of pipe made from a branch of a cherry tree. The stem of the pipe made from a thin branch of the same wood. Cloth tubing attaches the mouth piece for flexibility.Nil -

The original photo is part of an album taken by W Walls, the front page of which is inscribed " The Hill /Sunbury/April 1897". Whilest most of the photos relate to the environs of the asylum, there are othrs taken around Sunbury and ? elsewhere. The original album is held as part of the Mental Health library Collection. During 2000 this was transferred from Mont Park to the Royal Melbourne Hospital. Presumably Rupertswood Battery gun and gunners.Five men in uniform standing by a field gun.
