The ball was held under the patronage of 'His Excellency the Administrator of the Commonwealth of Australia, General Sir Dallas Brooks.' From Wikpedia: "Brooks was appointed Governor of Victoria by Premier Thomas Hollway and served from 1949 to 1963. During his term as governor, he acted as Administrator of the Commonwealth three times. He served in this capacity for almost seven months after the governor-general, Viscount Dunrossil, suddenly died in office in 1961 after serving only one year. An article from the Sydney Legacy Bulletin on an address by Legatee Alfred (Kem.) Kemsley, a long serving Legatee on the 'Beginnings of Legacy'. A detailed first hand account of the early history of Legacy. Legatee Kemsley mentions a village in France in June 1918 which was the HQ of Australian Corps, with General Birdwood, General White and General Monash, and that Monash had a role in setting up Legacy. He mentions a picnic at a beach with widows and children in March 1925 as the start of work with them. Legatee Kemsley was president of Melbourne Legacy in 1932. The article was part of an album of past presidents and prominent legatees from 1965 to 1989. The folder included biographical details and obituaries, eulogies and death notices of prominent Legatees. Frederick Lloyd Carleton VX1555 served in the 2/23rd Battalion, 9th Division in the Middle East and in the Pacific. The images detail his day to day life at the front and on leave. He served during the siege of Tobruk and at El Alamein, and was a lifelong member of the Bendigo sub-branch of the Rats of Tobruk Association. New Guinea 17.2.19144 - 21.3.1944 & 10.3.1945 - 23.3.1945, Darwin area 8.9.1944 - 19.9.1944. Awarded Bar to the DSO 30.12.1941, MID 26.6.1942 & 15.12.1942, CBE 15.4.1943. Appointed Deputy Adjutant General 3.5.1944, appointment terminated in the 2nd AIF on 20.12.1945, placed on the Reserve list of Officers with the rank of Colonel & Honorary Brigadier. Speech delivered by Lieutenant General Sir Phillip Bennett KBE, AO, DSO when he unveiled the Memorial Plaque and opened the Donovan Joynt VC Club at Puckapunyal on 23 March 1983. Sir Phillip Bennett himself had an illustrious career and was Chief of General Staff when he delivered this address; he became Chief of the Defence Force in 1984 and after retiring from the Army in 1987 he was appointed Governor of Tasmania. During surgery under general anaesthetic, these forceps were used to pull the tongue forward to keep the patient's airways clear from obstruction. This tool was in general use from the 1930s onwards in teaching hospitals, and became a standard piece of equipment on all anaesthetic trolleys. In the majority of teaching hospitals, the blades of these forceps were smooth and wide to cause less trauma to the tongue. This particular style of tongue forceps is known as Guy's tongue forceps.Dr Mitchell Henry O'Sullivan worked in the Victorian country town of Casterton as a general practitioner from 1919 until his death in 1977. He also practiced obstetrics. His son, Dr David More O'Sullivan donated his obstetric bag and its contents to the College in 1999. The bag and contents are a unique time capsule of the type of instruments and pharmaceuticals used in the inter-war period.Pair of metal forceps. Similar in appearance to a pair of scissors, and other surgical forceps, but with rounded teardrop shaped tips. There is also a notch clip for the handle to keep the forceps open. Even so, US and allied troops withdraw. 1975 – On 24 April, with North Vietnamese victory imminent, Thiệu’ resigns as president and the CIA fly him to Taiwan.
