Wattle Park was then Fenwick's farm - or - Fennies to the local boys. In 1900, Mr J. V. Smith, the owner of Bundoora Park, organised a public competition for a design, in the Queen Ann style, for a mansion to be situated on the property. De Soza park was developed as a public amenity from the early 1980s. The church was opened in 1947. Andrew Ward wrote a history of it in 1987. Title: " St Theodore's Anglican Church Wattle Park - A History of a Small Parish: 1947-1987." The large mullock heap, marks the site of a former quartz mine, and is one of the few visible signs of the former presence of extensive gold mining activities in this area of Ballarat. Originally known as Park Mine, and now known as Mount Holled Smith, the mine associated with this mullock heap puddled 750 tons of washdirt each day. The mine closed down in 1874, at which time 94,699 ounces of gold had been removed from the ground. The Centennial mosaic covers a wall 68 feet (20.72 metres) in length and 14 feet (4.26 metres) high. A computer screen-print, from the eBay website, advertising this postcard for sale, was found filed with our photographs. Not recognising it as one already held, Martha Valentine purchased the card from eBay and donated it to the collection.Early black and white photograph of Rutherglen Park, printed on a postcard.
