This blazer was worn by Keith Wylie from 1939 until 1942 when he joined the army and was commissioned in the Corps of Aust. Elect. & Mech. Engineers. He was studying for his Electrical Diploma and practice Electrical Engineering. He finished his army service in the British Occupation Force in Japan before returning to be discharged in May 1947. He completed his remaining 2 subjects at S.M.B. in 1947. Green woollen unlined blazer with embroidered emblem on breast pocket. The edges are bound including the three pockets and the sleeve cuff 9 cm from the edge. There are three green buttons at the front. The internal edges are bound are there is tape stitched to the inside where the top of the side pockets are stitched. Stohr was a member of the Council of the Ballarat School of Mines for 24 years, a member of the Council of the Ballarat grammar School for 24 years, represented all Provincial Sewerage Authorities in Victoria on the Plumbers and gasfitters registration Board of Victoria for 25 years, member of the Institution of Engineers (Australia) for 46 years, member of the Association of Professional Engineers of Australia for 22 years, and chairman of the Ballarat Group of the Association . Holmsdale Convalescent and Rest Home was built by John Mawson for his sisters Muriel, Beatrice and Harriet (and ? Ethel or Dorothy), all nurses. It was named after the sailing ship that their parents, Frederick W and Mary Mawson and baby Beatrice migrated on from England in 1882. John was a partner in the Box Hill building firm Garre tt and Mawson. The sketch of the nursing home used in the brochure was his work. It was opened on Saturday 14 March 1936 by Mr M J Boyland, MLA. The home was closed in the mid-1950s and converted into 4 self-contained flats, one of which was occupied by the sisters in their retirement; the others provided them with an income. Initial photocopies of this brochure, an invitation to the official opening of Holmsdale, photos of the ship Holmsdale, passengers' ticket for Fred W Mawson, Mary Mawson & Beatrice Mawson and notes compiled by John Howden about his late aunts (Bea, Hadge & Mouse) were donated to the collection by Randy Johnson, a tenant of John Howden's in late 2004. Collection of items, including documents and photographs, relating to the World War 1 Australian Army service of Private Alfred Charles Hill. A.C. Hill enlisted on 14th April, 1916 at the age of 44 years and 6 months. He lived in Frankston, Victoria and was married to Charlotte Eliza. He served with the 2nd Pioneer Battalion and embarked from Melbourne on the 28th July, 1916 on the HMAT Thermistocles (ship A32). He was in England and France briefly, returning to Australia on 22nd July, 1917 and discharged on the 5th November, 1917 as medically unfit. Hill was involved with the formation of the Frankston RSL Sub Branch in 1918/1919 and was Sub Branch Treasurer from 1919 'til 1923. see following items 00325.1 to 00325.8
