Something new has happened in Kylie Stillman’s work. It is not a departure. Perhaps a better way of explaining it would be an inward looking, a reflection on process and purpose. Program for RACV Centenary 2003-2004. Program describes many events for the period December 2003 until November 2004 including a travelling exhibition entitled 'In the Drivers Seat' that expored motoring past, present and future which came to Bendigo at the Golden Dragon Museum 15 April - 31 May 2004. Also a postcard, which reproduces a poster used to promote RACV road service in about 1925. Also a letter from the donor, Des Akers explaining that the items belonged to his uncle Ted malone who attended foot racing events in the Bendigo area.event

Copy of a newspaper article titled Memories of area's goldfield history. After becoming involved with a special history program at the Long Gully Primary School in 1984 as a guest speaker, Alan Crossley explained to the children the features of local goldfields and took them on several excursions highlighting the significance of the Long Gully area played in Bendigo's early growth. The school built up a collection of material of the long Gully area and the idea of a gallery was born. Accompanying photo shows Mr Crossley and the Regional Director of Education Mr Doug Weir at the opening of the gallery. A widows' function, that involved a raffle, (some of the same ladies are in 00654 and 00655). The lady drawing the raffle is Inez Bruce / President, and the lady holding the prize may be Joan Miller. The photo was featured in the July 1992 Widows Newsletter and explains the day was the 'Great Tea Party' in June 1992 when the widows rooms were opened after 9 months of renovations. Cakes were donated by Fergusson Plarre. In the 1990s Legacy was supported by generous donations from Fergusson Plarre Bakehouse with cakes often donated for events and the annual fete. A photo of the Legacy Garden of Appreciation at the Shrine of Remembrance taken from the balcony of the Shrine in September 1998 after the installation of the statue of the Widow and Children. It is called the Garden of Appreciation 'marking the generosity of Victorians in supporting Legacy in its work of assisting widow sand children of deceased veterans'. The 'Widow and Children' statue was commission by Legacy and installed in 1998. The Garden is in a cruciform shape and is on the eastern side of the Shrine Reserve near Birdwood Avenue. It was formerly called the Garden of Memory from 1980-1986 according to Monument Australia website. One plaque explains 'the garden features the Flanders Fields poppies, the seeds which came from Villers-Bretonneux, France'. This document was written to celebrate the 60th birthday of Legatee Leigh Johns in 1983. It is a collection of poems written about L/ Johns by different authors as a tribute to him reaching 60 years of age. Leigh Johns was born in 1923, the date of the founding of Melbourne Legacy, and became a Legatee in 1956, serving on 15 ML Boards and as an executive member of the Legacy Co-ordinating Council . He had a distinguished war record in the RAF during WWII and survived 32 bombing raids over France and Germany. He was an enthusiastic contributor of poetry to the Melbourne Legacy Bulletin which explains why this document is in the form of a poem. He was granted Reserve status in 2001 and died in 2008.The tone of the document reveals the affection with which Leigh Johns was regarded amongst his peers, and illustrates the collegiality which existed in the organisation during his membership.White A4 photocopy paper with black type x 13 pages.'Box 16' on title page. 30 min colour and sound 16mm film, severely faded, beginning with an interview with a Vietnam widow and going on to explain the help Sydney Legacy gave to bereaved families including outings, health, etc. Lionel Long, who was a Legacy ward, is interviewed and sings one of the ballads he was famous for in the 1960s. A Widow's Club meeting is shown and a party of the Northern Suburbs Progressive Twenties who raised money for Legacy. They were smoking, drinking, and eating what looks like cheerios and slices of bread in a large room hung with streamers and balloons and dancing to pop music. Junior Legatee Karen Miller was interviewed about her experience travelling to Switzerland to represent Australia at the Swiss Bank Centenary, Switzerland, with a boy from NSW, going on to stay with a Legacy family in London for a week. The functions of Legatees are explained as a Legatee is shown with one of his families. Also interviewed is a practising solicitor who attributes his qualification to the help he got from Legacy. Girls are shown rehearsing for their debutante presentation and the film segues to the actual presentation with the Governor Sir Roden Cutler, Governor of NSW, and his wife. Legatees are shown cutting, trucking and delivering firewood to widows. This book belonged to Evan Jones, a plasterer and stone mason from Warrnambool (born 1865). He and the Rev. Norman Crawford, the Curate at Christ Church, Warrnambool, began the first Boy Scout group in Warrnambool, the 1st Warrnambool Troop. When Baden Powell, the founder of the Boy Scout movement, visited Melbourne he presented Evan Jones with his scouting medal. The Boy Scout movement has been active in Warrnambool for over 100 years and currently there are two troops operating in the city - Warrnambool Tooram Scouts and Warrnambool Norfolk Scouts Evan Jones was also a Sergeant in the Warrnambool Garrison Artillery (a Volunteer Corps) and this partly explains his ownership of this book and his interest in military scouting. This book is of minor interest as an example of the type of book available early in the 20th century on military scouting. It is also of interest as a book belonging to Evan Jones, the co-founder of the Boy Scout movement in Warrnambool. This is a small book with a buff-coloured cardboard cover. It has red lettering on the front cover which is partly torn away at the right bottom edge. Many of the pages are also stained and torn away at the edges. The text includes sections on military patrolling in general and a section describing military patrols in the Boer War. There are several lift-out pages of sketches of patrols. Scarifiers were traditionally used for blood letting, and in folk medicine for the practice of cupping. Spring loaded knives cut the skin, then a warmed metal or glass cup is placed over the cuts. As the air inside the cup cools, it creates a vacuum drawing out the "bad" blood. The process is also related to the ancient medical theory of "humors". This theory dates back to the Hippocratic tradition and persisted through to the mid-19th Century. According to this theory, the body had four "humors", "airs" or "elements" which neeed to be kept in balance. Any imbalance could cause illness and this was often explained in terms of excess fluids. This badge was not worn on the regalia of the Methodist Girls' Comradeship. It was designed in 1918 by Miss Bessie Sanger of Bondi. "The shape of the badge is the ivy leaf which stands for friendship - fellowship with our Heavenly Father and in His Church and friendship is our Comradeship with each other. The background is blue, symbolising fellowship. White is the symbol of purity and gold symbolises "true happiness". It is the symbol of wealth, and the greatest wealth in life is "true happiness" - a happiness that comes only when our lives, our wills, are one with God's will for us. This meaning of the badge shall be explained to the Comrade/Ray either at her initiation/welcome or on presentation of the badge. This is a study of Melbourne Legacy by the author William Paul Healy, from April 1973 to March 1975. The author was interested because of the reputation gained by Legacy over the preceding 50 years, for successfully delivering welfare services by volunteers to widows and their dependant children. The aim of the study was to describe, analyse, explain and evaluate the work of Legacy. This has been done at great length and in summary the great value of Legacy is in the continuity of a Legatee with the one family i.e. the legatee maintained contact with the family through school, beginning work/university and other milestones in the life of a dependant family. It was thought that families in receipt of Legacy services functioned at a higher level than those who do not receive such services.Significant in that Legacy was seen as providing a high quality service.
