This picture is one of the earliest showing items from the Coombs Collection on display. The collection had been donated to the Society in 1961. The street parade where many community organisations participated was popular with the townspeople. The Rupertswood Hotel is visible behind the bystanders and it was demolished in the latter half of the 1970s.The Sunbury Festival was an important community event in Sunbury each year as many community groups participated in it with displays. A black and white photograph with a white border, in post card format of a tractor decorated with anti pollution slogans being driven in a street parade. Gilda GUDE (1918-1996) Gilda Gude worked in various media throughout her career, favouring figure and flower studies. She attended the Ballarat Technical Art School during the early 1930s, and later the George Bell School. In 1938 Gilda Gude and Betty Brown, another Ballarat Technical Art School student, designed the flora carpet for the Ballarat Begonia Festival. This artwork was completed for a competition sponsored by the large art supply company Wiltshires. In 1952 Gude won the Royal Art Society Drawing Prize, and began lecturing at RMIT in 1861. This item is part of the Federation University Art Collection. Erin McCUSKEY Erin is a filmmaker, photographer and digital media artist with a bent on ‘difference’. She is the Creative Director at Yum Studio where she has forged a national reputation for delivering innovative and unique creative media projects, using projection, media, social media and social broadcasting. Ern McCuskey has a passion for producing projects with human rights at their core. Her short films, installations and commissions have screened at Museum of Australian Democracy at Eureka (MADE), Melbourne International Film Festival (MIFF), Flickerfest, Indiefest, Gertrude St Projection Festival, Ballarat International Foto Biennale, numerous exhibitions, performances and collections. Erin’s work is informed by the knowledge that difference is a necessary part of society and the core of a healthy one. She is passionate about creating media that is thought provoking, possibly controversial and also entertaining. Media creation is a group pursuit and those behind the camera are more often control the balance of power, therefore she is committed to unique collective story development. “I believe that art is in the everyday, that we all can, should and do, create. My work is informed by the moving images of my siblings as children recorded by my father, the houses and homes, spaces and events, which live on as objects themselves in various homes as photos, archives, projected and loved. Jessie STEINFORT Steinfort was Studied Graphic Design at the University of Ballarat (later Federation University) After 12 years of working in design studios and advertising agencies, Steinfort is now a Senior Designer at Ogilvy Melbourne. And previously, he has been responsible for work on BMW & Mini, Carlton Football club, Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre, Melbourne Food & Wine Festival, AAMI, Yarra Valley Water, and Arts Centre Melbourne. From 2008 to 2011 Steinfort was lead designer and front-end web developer at clickDM (now HARDWIRE). Where he worked with such clients as HOSTPLUS, GSK, UniSuper and Swann Insurance. From 2000 to 2008 Steinfort was a designer at Mediation Communications working on print and interactive projects for; City of Melbourne, City of Greater Geelong, City of Port Phillip, Mentor Education, and ACMA. 1986 Grand Parade, 8 November. The Society's entry in the Eltham Community Festival parade included Ben Hall's Cobb and Co. coach and was awarded the major prize for the parade. This involves a perpetual trophy which the Society holds for one year. 1986: 7-9 November. New Banner, Ben Hall coach and vintage cars The 1986 festival was held from 7th to 9th November with the parade will be held at noon on Saturday, November 8th. The "float" consisted of Ben Hall's Cobb & Co. coach and several vintage motor vehicles. Society members were dressed in Victorian era for those riding in the coach and 1920s fashion for those in the motor vehicles. A further feature of the parade was the use of the Society banner which had been created that year. The Society's entry in the Eltham Community Festival parade included Ben Hall's Cobb and Co. coach and was awarded the major prize for the parade. This involved the presentation of a perpetual trophy which the Society held for one year. However, it was the last time the trophy was awarded and remains in the Society's collection. The trophy was replaced in 1987 with a Best Display award which again was won by the Society, and again in 1988. 1984: 17 November. “Pioneers of Eltham” The Society arranged a float for the Festival parade with members dressed appropriately to the theme "Pioneers of Eltham". Participants assembled at 11.30am in Cecil Street with the parade commencing at 12 noon. As in past parades a number of members of the Victorian Folk Music Club accompanied the float and members, the group greatly added to the occasion with their happy music. The Society also arranged a display at the Eltham Community Centre in association with the activities there over the Festival weekend. Photographs from a multimedia festival held at Bialik College in 2008. As part of the Information Technology program, teacher Brendan Cohen, shared work from students throughout the week. Please contact [email protected] to request access to this record.Edge [indistinct] 2008 CT Week at Bialik College We had an explosive and wonderful ICT week with our Multimedia Festival, The Edge, at Bialik. Our media Teacher, Brendan Cohen, displays student work in Flash, Adobe Premiere assignments, and photography. Each year level is shown the program and each morning teachers view samples of the work during morning briefing. The wondrous thing was a 6in6 contest in photography. 6 photos from each group were submitted, all taken as originals. Special effects could be gathered from internet sources. For example, one student put fire in the lenses of the subjectís dark glasses. The 6 secrets were: Magic A different perspective Inside out Going green Melting It's in the eyes. The second contest was to create a DVD cover for a movie of your life. One boy took 6 closeups of his face and manipulated them beautifully. Then he took another photo and merged all of them. It was extraordinary and the outputs were stunning. The energy all week was high. The second part of our ICT Multimedia Festival was a contest where students could submit an image file. ìCreate a DVD cover of a movie of your life.î Here is the winning entry.
