The photograph was taken when railway land on either side of the tracks was used for recreational purposes and agricultural related activities. The bluestone 'road over rail' bridge at Macedon Street is of state architectural, architectural, historical and engineering significance. It spans the first government regional railway. St Mary's Anglican Church was originally built on land in Oaklands Road. It was licensed in 1859 by Bishop Perry, the first Anglican bishop of Melbourne. In the late 1960s the church was dismantled and rebuilt on its present site at Bulla, adjacent to the former Council Chambers. it was shifted to the township of Bulla because the building was under the direct path of a proposed future flightpath.vintage cars, churches, st. mary's anglican church - bulla, george evans collection

In the late 1960s St. Mary's Anglican Church was dismantled from its Oaklands Road site and rebuilt on land in Bulla township adjacent to the old shire offices. It was moved because of the interference it would create for aircraft landing in the new Melbourne Airport at Tullamarine. The bluestone bridge which spans the Jacksons Creek was built in 1857 and replaced a laminated timber bridge. In the early 1970s the eastern approach to Sunbury was changed. The stone bridge spanning the Jacksons Creek was replaced by a wider concrete structure and dangerous curves were taken out of the road. The two arch bluestone bridge which spanned the Jacksons Creek was replaced in the early 1970s with a wider double lane bridge. Dangerous curves were also taken out of the road. The fence and gates at the entrance of the Rupertswood Estate have a heritage listing. The Sunbury bakery which was in O'Shanassy Street was demolished in the 1970s to make way for newer retail development. The Sunbury Newsagency and Sunbury News building was originally sited in Brook Street on the site of the present newsagency from 1900 to 1910. Eric Boardman continued to print the Sunbury News after the death of his father, Arthur, and until the newspaper was taken over by The Regional Group in 1965. In 1929 Eric Boardman took over the management of the Sunbury News in partnership with Harold Sparrow. The two men printed the Gisborne Gazette, the Lancefield Mercury as well as the Sunbury paper until 1956 when Mr. Sparrow withdrew from the partnership. In the early 1980s, the CBD of Sunbury bounded by Evans, Brook, O'Shanassy and Station Streets underwent major redevelopment. The Macedon Street Bridge over Jacksons Creek is important because it was built on one of Victoria's first important roads. The Railway Hotel in Sunbury was owned and operated by the Edwards family until Dawn Edwards died in 2004. It is situated on the corner of Station and Evans Streets and over the years has undergone many changes to accommodate the changes in liquor and gaming laws.A black and white photograph of the Railway Hotel, renamed The Olive Tree. Woodlands Homestead was erected by William Greene in 1843 and is one of the state's oldest buildings. Over the years the complex has been renovated and extended. The property has connections with the racing industry over the years along with the neighbouring properties of 'Cumberland' and 'Attwood'. Sunbury Secondary College was established in 1959 and was built on the site of the former rabbit canning factory on the corner of Riddell and Racecourse Roads.
