An early colour postcard of a brook scene in Marysville. The original photograph was taken by Nicholas John Caire in 1906. This is one of a series of postcards of photographs taken by socialite photographer Nicholas John Caire. N.J. Caire had a great love for the area and in the late 1800's took many photographs of Marysville and its surrounds. N.J. Caire was born in 1837 in Guernsey. He arrived in Adelaide about 1860 along with his parents who encouraged his early interest in photography. He opened a studio in Adelaide in 1867 after traveling extensively throughout the Gippsland taking photographs. After marrying in 1870 he moved to Talbot in Victoria until 1876 when he opened a studio in the Royal Arcade in Melbourne. After 1885 N.J. Caire gave up his city work and made his home in South Yarra and devoted the rest of his life to outdoor photography, specializing in the bush, the gullies and the mountains of south-eastern Victoria. Domestic object - Mickey Mouse Puzzle, F.J. Strauss Co., Inc, 1900's (made in Korea for the company F.J. Strauss Co.)
This puzzle was used by the Parker family. You probably had a set similar to these; I know I did as a kid. While these haven't completely vanished from the toy landscape, there are still a few sets of "Puzzle Blocks" being made today. Basically, these were six puzzles in one, made up of wooden cubes, each with 1/20 of the image glued to them. Usually they came in a tray or carrying case, allowing the owner to have a place to assemble the pictures. A 20 piece Walt Disney's All Wood Blocks puzzle with 6 coloured forms or pictures on all four sides of the blocks in a yellow cardboard carry case with a 6 in 1 Puzzle. The case has a plastic see through frame on the top to see the puzzle and a white plastic closing clip and handle on one side. The puzzle can be made in the box. On the back of the box are pictures of the six puzzles of Mickey Mouse and friends to be made.Details of the manufacturer are printed on the sides of the box as swell as explanations about what the carry box contains.toys, games, leisure games, children's toys, box puzzles -

Badge, Warrnambool Amateur Basketball Association, 1960s
In the 1950s and 60s what we know as netball today was played by women and was known as basketball. No information has been found on this Warrnambool Basketball Association but it is most probable, however, that it was an early organization of men’s basketball teams. The game of basketball, founded in America, has become much more popular in Australia for both men and women in the last three or four decades with the local organization in Warrnambool known as Warrnambool Basketball Inc. and the teams Warrnambool Seahawks and Mermaids playing in a state-wide competition. This badge is retained for display purposes as an example of a sporting badge from the mid 20th century. This is a metal badge in the shape of a shield with gold lettering on a brown background and gold-coloured images of a net and ball on a green background. It has a metal ring at the top for attachment to a ribbon or cord.Warrnambool Amateur Basketball Associationwarrnambool basketball, warrnambool netball, history of warrnambool -

Gratitude for contribution letters Dear Bon and Edna, The members of the Mount Cottrell Group wish to extend to you both their sincere gratitude for the dedicated service you have both provided to the Group Brigades whilst you operated the radio and phone from your home. It is thanks to people such as yourselves who, with foresight, pioneered the Group system and the communications that went with it, that has made the Country Fire Authority what it is today. Words can never express the sacrifices we know you have both made over the years to keep the radio and phone manned. We did try to leave your remote but the Authority would only allow one to Wayne’s residence. Once again many, many thanks to you Bon and Edna for your contribution to the Group, but know we can still look forward to your support in the future, Bon is still a deputy communications officer. Incidently our next meeting is on Wednesday 17th December at the Melton Fire Station, you are both most welcome to attend, our guest that evening will be Ken Coghill M. L. A.
