The residential school was to provide theoretical and in-house education and practical training over three years. The students would also receive practical hands-on training in the wards of associated hospitals. The Northern District School of Nursing operated from Lister House, Rowan Street, Bendigo. .1) These capes were worn by student nurses when going on and off duty, when called to see the Matron or senior nurse (but never worn on duty). They were made of unlined woollen fabric and were wrist length and worn by Alfred Hospital student nurses until 1992.This nurses cape was made before 1970 as Ball & Welch Ltd was bought out in 1970. .2) RANF was between 1971-1988. In October 1975 the Royal Victorian College of Nurses amalgamated with the RANF Employees' Section and became the new Royal Australian Nursing Federation. .1) Machine stitched light blue pure wool cape with stitched down shoulder epaulettes. The ships are listed alphabetically and include information on the captain, the size and type of ship, departure and arrival dates and the number of passengers. European settlement with free settlers commenced in South Australia in 1836 and in the next four years more than a hundred migrant ships came to South Australia.This book is of some interest to those in the Warrnambool area as many 19th century settlers in the Western District of Victoria had emigrated initially to South Australia. The book will be useful to family history researchers.This is a soft cover book of 130 pages. It has a brown cover with a sketch of a sailing ship on the front. This Mathematics learning aid was made in Australia by the Cuisenaire Company of Australia under licence . These wooden number rods were invented by Belgium school teacher Georges Cuisenaire, who wrote a book about them in 1952 (Les Nombres en couleurs). Cuisenaire rods with booklet and box, wood / metal / paper, made by the Cuisenaire Company, Australia, 1965-1980. This object consists of a sheet metal box, containing 10 compartments, each with a single size of wooden blocks in different colours. The shortest block is 1 cm long, next 2 cm, etc., longest is 10 cm long. This photograph is one of approximately 43 original photographs and photocopies of buildings, patients and staff assembled in a red covered, spirally bound photograph album (the album itself is now discarded and the images stored separately). The images in the album cover the period from the 1870s to 1965. A few photographs have inscriptions on the reverse; others had later separate labels in the album. The album was presumably compiled as a public record. It and other items came from the collection assembled by Dr Fred Stamp, the last medical superintendent of Willsmere Hospital before its closure in 1988. Original photographs have been uploaded to and described on Victorian Collections. The album itself is listed and linked separately showing the photographs in situ.A number of the photographs from the Willsmere Hospital album are confronting, especially given the condition of the buildings and facilities depicted, as well as the casual photographs of patients, which some viewers may find distressing.
