... district. Its mother church, St Pauls Church of England ...St. Mary's Anglican Church at Bulla originally occupied a site along Oaklands Road, adjacent to 'Woodlands' homestead. It was established in 1859. With there building of the Melbourne Airport at Tullamarine it was found that the church on its existing site was directly under the flight path of the aircraft so the building was demolished stone by stone and rebuilt in the Bulla township adjacent to the Alistair Clark Rose Garden. The original site has not been developed because some early graves are there.St. Mary's Church at Bulla is one of the earliest to be established in the Bulla district. Its mother church, St Pauls Church of England at the original Broadmeadows township was established in 1850 and it still stands and operates on its original site.A black and white photograph with a cream border of a stone church with the congregation members entering the church. Photograph, Surrey Hills viewed from 'Quamby' at 293 Mont Albert Road, c 1915, 1915
Quamby was built in 1898. From 1900/1903-1924 it was the home of Andrew Sherar and family. From 1924-1960s it operated as Mosgiel Hospital under the direction of Matron Elizabeth Anderson. Until Box Hill Hospital opened most Surrey Hills children were born at Mosgiel or at Nethercourt Hospital in Wilson Street or later in Union Road when Matron Tank moved her hospital here. Mosgiel Hospital was demolished c 1975 after it was sold by Box Hill Hospital. It was replaced by units. Andrew Sherar was conductor of the Wyclif Church choir for many years and was a member of the Melbourne Liedertafel. Isie Sherar was organist at Wyclif Church and also taught piano in Union Road. Connie Sherar was in the Wyclif choir and married Ernest Swan, an elocutionist and orator. Dorothy Sherar was a pianist and accompanist. Elsie Sherar was also in the Wyclif choir and was a soloist; she later moved to Templestowe. Ken Sherar was a boy soprano at St Paul's Cathedral; he later moved to Queensland.Black and white photo looking south down Vincent Street from 'Quamby', located at 293 Mont Albert Road, Surrey Hills. Medallion, Vatican II Medal
The Second Vatican Council or Vatican II, also termed the Second Ecumenical Council of the Vatican addressed relations between the Catholic Church and the modern world. The council, through the Holy See, was formally opened under the pontificate of Pope John XXIII on 11 October 1962 and was closed under Pope Paul VI on the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception on 8 December 1965. The Bishop of Ballarat participated in the Council and this silver medal is one of his mementoes of the historic council. Many changes within the Catholic church were instituted as well as in relations between the Catholic church and other religions. -

The name Mordialloc was derived from the name Moody Yallock, which comes from the Bunurong language. The Bunurong Peoples are the Traditional Owners of this area. The name means “high water” or “high creek”. In 1839, colonial authorities declared the mouth of the creek, and an additional 830 odd acres as an Aboriginal Reserve, although this proclamation was never gazetted. The reserved land included part of the Carrum Carrum Swamp which was abundant with wild life and natural resources. Regular encroachments, including land sales which began in 1863, were made on the land until 1878 when the Reserve was declared closed, and the land was opened up to land sales. Market gardening and suburban house lots quickly began to develop, and Mordialloc became a renowned picnic and holiday site. Mordialloc Creek is a popular bay side destination for local and visitors, and is a site for boating, kayaking, fishing and swimming, along with many other activities.Colour photograph of Mordialloc Creek with boats moored on both sides of the street and Pompei's boat yard visible on the right hand side of the creek., Main Street and St Brigid's Catholic Church are visible in backgroundmordialloc, bunurong, traditional owners, suburbs, boats, fishing, waterways, hotel, church -
