A photocopy of a four page article in Table Talk, dated 01/01/1925, describing Joyous Gard, the Murrumbeena home of Dr J W Springthorpe. The article includes nine photographs of the house exterior and garden, the house interior and Dr and Mrs Springthorpe. It mentions that Mrs Arthur Tuckett laid out the garden, helped out by Mr Guilfoyle in the planning of it. Memorabilia, Kevin Findlay and Teddy Bear Theatre tickets
The theatre, set up in the old shire hall, was run by Bill Schooling and Connie Maugham. A World War 1 veteran, Charlie Croft, was the doorman. The films came down by ferry for Saturday nights, or Bill Schooling collected them in his car, which ran on kerosene. In the summertime, there were also screenings on Wednesdays and Fridays. Screenings started with a newsreel; then a travelogue was shown; another support film would be fitted in before interval, then another newsreel, a cartoon, and finally the feature film hit the screen. The Mt Beauty Fire Brigade commenced under the State Electricity Commission of Victoria in 1948. It was a (Country Fire Authority) C.F.A. Brigade from December 1961 and later an Urban Fire Brigade. The Fire Brigade and its Ladies Auxillary provided many community activities as well as protecting the population.The State Electricity Commission of Victoria established the Mt Beauty Fire Brigade during the construction of the Kiewa Hydro Electric Scheme. Its Ladies Auxillary was very active and involved, serving the community by raising money for the brigade and providing social occasions such as 'Deb' balls.One set of two pages and one set of eleven pages of the History of the Mt Beauty Fire Brigade and Mt Beauty Urban Fire Brigade respectively.
