Denis Gibbons (1937 – 2011) Trained with the Australian Army, before travelling to Vietnam in January 1966, Denis stayed with the 1st Australian Task Force in Nui Dat working as a photographer. For almost five years Gibbons toured with nine Australian infantry battalions, posting compelling war images from within many combat zones before being flown out in late November 1970 after sustaining injuries. A faded light blue coloured cover with black information on the front. Top right hand corner reads 7610-66-023-8400 and under this is the number 18 handwritten in black texta. There are several orange tabs highlighting various sections of the booklet. The booklet is held together with metal screws from the inside of the cover. This medical / hospital equipment was used in the Tawonga District General Hospital which was built in the 1950's specifically for the increase in population due to the Kiewa Hydro Scheme.Historical: Shows the development of scientific hospital equipment. 1297 - Booklet with red heavy card cover and 24 pages inside and a four page supplement glued into rear cover giving details of the by-laws operating for the SEC tramways in Ballarat and Bendigo. Gives details of the definitions, fares and charges, sale of tickets, regulating number of passengers, stopping places, nuisances, smoking, dangerous goods, luggage and goods, general matters and fares broken into adult fares for each section and Children's fares and Pensioners' Concession fares for both Ballarat and Bendigo. Note - introduced decimal currency into the fares as well as pence. Document number on front cover "TYE 1-270". This by-law replaced or revoked all previous by-laws and amendments. Came in effect 1/10/1965 with a fare rise. Received Governor In Council approval on 24/8/1965. These fares have been amended in pencil for Ballarat. The amendment pasted into the rear of the booklet is dated 2nd August. 1966 and came into effect on 1/9/1966. 1297.1 - ditto, but actual used copy by D. J. Everett - see Reg. Item 2292 for details of SEC Ballarat Employee. On page one or title sheet, has an additional amendment pasted in - dated 14/1/1969 giving details of fare increases in Ballarat and Bendigo to come into effect 14/1/1969. A colour slide of cars collecting children for Operation Float. The caption says 'Collecting Children at Box Hill Class'. Operation Float was an event run by Melbourne Legacy to take Junior legatees on an outing. It could have been to naval boats such as HMAS Cerberus or to a Yacht club. It gave the junior legatees the opportunity to see a naval boat in action, spend time on the water or try sailing. Part of a set of slides that are printed on Ektachrome and discoloured to a pink tinge. The year is possibly 1961 as one slide has the date on it. Was with many other slides taken in the 1950s and 1960s. The slides have been photographed to make digital images and moved to archive quality sleeves. This item was found in an ANMF Federal Office archive box. It was taped into a picture frame, broken when found. The note was written on the title page of a book. The title page was separated from the book, and the book was not with the item. We believe the item came to the ANMF Federal office via the ANF Tasmanian Branch. In the early stages of the Kiewa Hydro-Electric Scheme the State Electricity Commission took over the financial and construction responsibility of the Tawonga District General Hospital building at a cost of 27,000 pounds. This included the removal and re-erection of the ex-military Bonegilla ward from Wodonga while in addition they carried out all the necessary building works that allowed the hospital to operate as a functional unit. The work was completed and handed over to the Hospital Committee of Management on September 1, 1949. Local residents raised 3,400 pounds through fund raising. The balance was met by the SEC and the Hospital and Charities Commission. The initial project was to provide for a basic temporary hospital which was later to include an Operating Theatre, Offices, Store, Mortuary and a Nurse’s Home, until the establishment of a permanent medical premises. Following the opening, 455 patients were admitted to the Tawonga District General Hospital and 254 operations were performed in the first year. The hospital relocated to Mount Beauty in the former SEC administration offices located in the town centre. Official opening of the 18 bed Tawonga District General Hospital was on April 29 in 1961. The old weatherboard building was demolished around the late 1900’s to early 2000’s and replaced with a new modern brick building. Alpine Health CEO Mr Lyndon Seys oversaw the opening of the new Mount Beauty Hospital in November 2001 alongside Board of Management President Mr Andrew Randell, other board members and politicians. The Kiewa Hydro-Electric Scheme the State Electricity Commission played a pivotal part in the planning and initial funding of the Tawonga District General Hospital, with a view to providing medical support for its many workers on the Hydro scheme. Later, spouse and family members of workers were also able to access medical assistance The hospital was originally located in Tawonga away from the majority of the patients as the Hospital and Charities. Many SEC workers and their families have received medical care at Tawonga District General Hospital and Alpine Health over the years. A number of family members of SECV workers as well as other dedicated staff have provided high quality medical attention and support in all the facilities as nursing staff, support staff and volunteers. These medals were produced in 1985 to denote the closing of the Koroit Borough. Koroit is 18 kilometres north west of Warrnambool and the Borough of Koroit, established in 1870, covered 23.07 square kilometres. In 1985 the Borough of Koroit was incorporated into the Shire of Warrnambool as the Koroit Riding. In 1994 the Shire of Warrnambool ceased to exist and Koroit became part of the Shire of Moyne.These medals are interesting mementoes of the Borough of Koroit, a municipal authority that no longer exists.These identical gold coloured metal, almost circular, medallions feature a coat of arms with indistinguishable text and emblems , a second text and a wreath of laurel around the rim. The edge is notched and indented at the base.. The reverse side has text on a circular centre with the back of the laurel wreath surrounding it. This book was awarded to Florence Groves for first prize in arithmetic in 1885. Florence enrolled at Clarendon Ladies' College with her sister Blanche on 30/07/1884 at the age of 14. Father's Christian name listed in the original register as Daniel Barton residing at 18 Mc Carthur street, Ballarat. It also lists his employment as Commercial traveller.Presbyterian educators placed great value on a classical education matched with diligence in study. Book prizes were highly regarded and academic success admired. In the school’s early years prizes were ordered direct from London and had the school crest embossed in gold on the front or back cover. Many of the prizes given in early years were returned to the school to equip the Weatherly Library when it opened in 1936.Bound in brown and green cloth with gilt lettering and floral decorations on front cover and spine. Geelong Tramcar No. 18, freshly painted, in Corio Tce. with Strachan & Co's wool store in the background. The car has been converted for one man operation but retains the MESCo's double lineouts that were replaced by single yellow lines in the 1940s.
