Fives images of the workshop machinery used by the Queensland Industrial Institute for the Blind in the manufacture of various products. 1 - Pitched brooms being made by Stewart Jewell (left) and Jack Dollier (right). 2 - Unknown worker at a basket station making a cane basket, surrounded by finished examples. 3 - Snowy Willis oversees the operation of the machine that bores holes into brush heads. 4 - Unknown worker operating a coir matting machine. There were apparently 10 such machines in use at the time this image was taken. 5 - Snowy Willis checking the bobbins being filled from a giant spool. The photograph was taken at the ANA Hall & depicts the Headmaster, past students & parents who organised a very successful 'Back to School" weekend for the centenary.This photograph is a valuable record of the principal citizens of Harcourt, post WW2, given leadership by H Larter, the school headmaster, and C H James, a returned soldier/orchard supervisor turned /historian. John Moule was President for the Association for the Blind from 1992 until 1999. Shortly after his commencement, political changes forced the realignment of government departments and expenditure, requiring a reduction in nursing home accommodation and staffing levels. With the demand increasing for services, and the need for a financially sustainable model, he oversaw the increasing amount of government support for the AFB as well as the successful centenary appeal. St John's Presbyterian was built in 1853. It was used for worship services 1853 - 1927. It was subsequently used by church organisations for a further 25 years. Demolished in 1953.
