Born 7 November 1906. Graduated from Princeton University 1928 with a BA, and from Princeton Theological Seminary in 1932 with a Bachelor of Theology, From 1928 to 1929 he taught at the Forman Christian College in Lahore. In 1935 was minister in the Presbyterian Church in America, holding pastorates in New York City and Albany. In 1951 to 1958 clerk of the General Assembly of the PCUSA President National Council of Churches. General Secretary of the World Council of Churches 1966 to1972. Australian Army was equipped with M3 General Grant tanks during WW11. CMF Armoured Regiments had M3 General Grant tanks 1948 - 1955. Technical manuals and User Handbooks were essential equipment for Royal Australian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (RAEME) tradesmen permanently attached to Armoured Corps regiments as Light Aid Detachments (LAD) or AFV Workshops and were responsible for repairs and maintenance of a nature beyond the expertise of AFV crewmen and just short of major rebuilds undertaken by Base Workshop detachments.Part of a collection of workshop manuals and user handbooks relating to equipment on issue to 8th/13th Victorian Mounted Rifles during the latter half of the twentieth century.Buff colour covered booklet, 160 pages, thermal bound being Technical Manual Ordnance Maintenance Medium Tanks M3, M3A1 and M3A2. Four gentlemen at a afternoon tea event, presumably two are visiting Melbourne. Two have Legacy name tags, one says "Frank Meldrum, Melbourne". Other names and date unknown. It is possible it was the Legacy Conference held in Melbourne in 1973 which was the Golden Jubilee year, celebrating 50 years of Legacy. The general aim of the Australia-wide conferences was an exchange of ideas and methods of carrying out Legacy functions, and to form general policy for cooperation between clubs and groups. Rowsley is a locality 11 kilometers south-west of Bacchus Marsh. The date of this map is uncertain. A very similar map held by the State Library of Victoria (SLV) contains slightly more information than this copy and is dated as an 1856 map. An article titled 'Legacy Founder Honored', that mentions the speech by Legatee Brian Armstrong delivered as the Savige Memorial Oration at the Federal Conference of Legacy Clubs in Canberra on 22 October 1954. The speech is a full account of Savige's life, his war service and his role in Legacy. Legatee Armstrong was a good friend of Savige. The moving address described General Savige's life and service career, and how he formed Legacy in 1923 at the suggestion of his former Commander, Major General Sir John Gellibrand, He said at the time of his death the late General had been a member of Legacy for 30 years, and had been chosen to represent Legacy at the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth. Following the Second World War he held many important posts, one of the most notable being Co-ordinator of Demobilisation. Legatee Armstrong told the conference that if a memorial to the founder of Legacy was required, they only had to look around themselves. The second article on the same page is titled 'Legacy Conference Opened' and mentions the Governor General Sir William Slim, opening the conference in Canberra and some of the topics he spoke on. This ledger was used initially by H. James & Co., Shipping and General Commission agents in Orbost in the late 19th century and early 20th century. It was then used by James and Bird, Auctioneers and Estate Agents.Henry James (1860-1932) was a well-known identity in the Orbost district. He was a stock agent and auctioneer who helped to establish the seed bean industry in Orbost. He was the second secretary of the Snowy River Shipping Co. as well as a shire councillor and prominent member of MUIOOF. This bottle was used in the Tawonga District General Hospital which was built in the 1950's specifically for the increase in population due to the Kiewa Hydro Scheme. It was used for first aid for the treatment of bruises and joints.Small clear brown glass hexagonal bottle with black screw lid. The lid is grooved for easier opening. On the 3 front sides is a torn white label with red writing, green borders and at the bottom (of the label) black back ground and white writing. On the back is heavily embossed 'Not To Be Taken' and on each side face embossed 4 vertical lines. (to indicate poison). The base is embossed.Label: A lot of small writing in red and 'Tincture of / Iodine'.
