Yields information about the operation of Ballarat tram No. 36 in Melbourne to promote Ballarat after the closure of the SEC system.1060 - Newspaper clipping from The Courier, Ballarat, 15/9/1971 of the loading of tram 36 for running in Melbourne the previous day. Two photos (btm1060i1) shows Stan Lakey and Harry Van Oorschot jacking up the front of the tram and second photo (btm1060i2) shows Doug Wiseman and Bob Prentice on the main body jacks. Caption notes the transport of the tram to Melbourne for a week, advertising the Begonia Festival, Sovereign Hill and the Royal South St. competitions. Printed colour postcard of the east end of Sturt St. from top of the Nichol and Allen Building in Grenville St looking west. Titled "Sturt St Ballarat" in the top left-hand corner. Has three ESCo trams in the image, at the east end of Sturt St. In the bottom left-hand corner is the number "300477" and the initials "JV" within a circle. A 2d Australian stamp, cancelled with the postmark "Burnie Tas 21Ap 34" is in the top centre of the postcard. Image taken early in the days of the Ballarat electric trams, with no windows and no rooftop destinations. Appears to be the same tram possibly three times - looking at the number on the tram in detail. On the rear of the postcard is the address to a "Mme Helen Ferrando, Sori, Genova Italy" in black handwritten ink, while in the left-hand half of the postcard, typed in light purple ink is "Arthur H. Rubock, 23 Wilmot St., Burnie, Tasmania USCE 23897" (could be US Corps of Engineers) and the postmark of "Sori Genova. / 28.5.34". The printer of the card is "The Valentine & Sons Publishing Co. Ltd, Melbourne and Sydney" 2433.1 - Digital image of the same postcard from the Wal Jack album of Ballarat Photos - 5100-7-C, scanned as images .3 and .4 and high-resolution scans. On the rear in ink "Ballarat about 1912" and "Old type trams" 2433.2 - Card from Wal Jack to Ken Magor - see image 6 for a scan of the rear. Wal notes that the front of the cars have been outlined incorrectly. Series of three Colour photograph of Ballarat No. 37 using the Dawson St. crossover in Sturt St. Photos on Agfa Paper and taken on Friday 21 August 1971. Tram has the destination of Lydiard St. North and two roof advertisements for the SEC "Everything's under control in my all electric kitchen" on either side of the tram. 2427.1 - Photo of tram about to use the crossover with St. Patricks Cathedral in the background. 2427.2 - as above, but with tram on crossover. Bottom right hand corner appears to have a sleeve from someone else in the photograph. 2427.3 - after tram has completed the use of the crossover and continuing along Sturt St. to the City terminus. Photo has end of film marks on the right hand edge. Note H.P. 2437 - Printed colour postcard of the east end of Sturt St. from top of the Nicholl and Allan Building in Grenville St looking west. Has a horse tram leaving the Grenville St. terminus travelling up to Lydiard St. on the north side of Sturt St. Has the buildings on either side of Sturt St. in the view, including Suttons Music store. Titled "Sturt St Ballarat Vic" along the bottom edge. 2437.1 - On the bottom of the postcard is a two line hand written message. On rear of postcard is the address to a Miss C. Haurley of 4 Mortuary Road, South Shields England and two Victorian stamps - half penny (green) and one penny (red) stamps. Has been postmarked "North Melbourne Vic. Feb? 23 05" and over stamped "289" over the penny stamp. See images .1 and .2 2437.2 - On the bottom of the postcard is a single line hand written message. On the rear of postcard is the address to a Mr Frank Tucker, Glencairn, Park Avenue, Harrogate, England. Has two Victorian stamps, half penny (green) and one penny (red) stamps. Has been postmarked twice with the same stamp, "Ballarat East 16.01.04" or 16.11.04?? Black and white photograph of SEC No. 28 and 32 at the intersection of Drummond and Sturt Sts. Tram 28 has destination of Mt Pleasant, coming from Drummond St. south, and carrying "Trotting Bray Raceway Thursday" auxiliary sign board on front of tram. Tram 32 has been decorated for Myers as a Santa or Christmas tram, and is outbound to Gardens via Sturt. St. Pole sign by Holden car has a Olympic rings sign on it, indicating location of Lake Wendouree and once was a tram stop sign. Taken on 23-12-1967. High Res Images added 5/3/2011.
