They contain much local information on Warrnambool and district about businesses, government officials, banks, churches, harbour management, societies and organizations etc. The Warrnambool Standard newspaper was established in 1872 and continues to this day. These booklets are of high significance as they contain mush valuable information about Warrnambool and district for the year 1925. They are important research tools for those studying and writing the history of Warrnambool and district. Copy One belonged to the son of George Barber, a well-known solicitor who opened a legal practice in Warrnambool in 1855. George Barber, Senior died in 1879 and it appears that a member or members of his family went to the Maryborough district as this copy came into the collection of the Warrnambool and District Historical Society via the Midlands Historical Society. These are two soft cover booklets of 111 pages, plus several pages of advertisements at the front and back of the booklets. The covers are buff-coloured with brown lettering. The back cover of Copy Two has come apart and has been re-affixed with adhesive tape. The booklets contain a fold-out sheet of a map of Warrnambool, several photographs in blue and brown tonings and other illustrations. Frederick Ernest ADDLEM Initially enlisted as No V122087 in the CMF (57/60th Bn) on 16.9.1941. His New Guinea service is listed as from 8.3.1943 to 11.8.1944. While there he transfers to the 2nd AIF as VX142253 on 9.6.1943. WIA on 18.3.1944, GSW to heel, returns to duty classed medically “A1” on 11.8.1944. Fred then embarks for Bougainville and this service is classed from 1.1.1945 to 15.2.1946. While in Bougainville he is hospitalised twice, once with Dysentry and then with Dermatitis. He is discharged from the 2nd AIF on 1.4.1946. This Bible belonged to Thomas Wong Ch(e)ong who was the catechist at the Warrnambool Chinese Church in Ryot Street, Warrnambool. In 1892 Thomas Wong Cheong was appointed by the Foreign Missions Committee of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Victoria as the catechist to the Chinese community in Warrnambool and district. The Chinese Church in Ryot Street was established in the early 1890s and continued until the late 1920s when the numbers of the local Chinese community had declined. Thomas Wong Cheong and his wife worked tirelessly in the Warrnambool district until his death in 1923. No information has been found on James Yee Keet. This is a book of high significance because it belonged to Thomas Wong Cheong who holds an important place in Warrnambool’s history because of his work with the Warrnambool Chinese community over a period of 30 years. This is a leather-covered book with four gold Chinese characters on the spine and the back cover (the front cover for Chinese readers). The leather on the cover extends over the pages and folds inwards to almost enclose the pages. The pages are gilt-edged. The inscription is handwritten in blue ink. The book contains a fold-out map of the Mediterranean Sea area and all the text is in printed Chinese characters.
