The Manchester Unity Independent Order Of Oddfellows was a friendly society beginning in England in 1840, and provided medical and other services to communities. MUIOOF became strong in gold-rush Australia, with many branches, or lodges, in country centres. Tarnagulla's Loyal Garibaldi Lodge was registered on 21 September 1861, and remained a vital part of the community for many decades. Like other Lodges, this fraternal organisation provided unemployment, sickness and funeral insurance for workers. It played an important civic role by providing financial security, a social outlet and an avenue for status advancement. The Protestant Association of Victoria was established in 1858. It is distinct from the Victorian Protestant Association that was established in 1917 and was active during and after World War I.The card carries the signatures of the founding members of the Association, including John Pascoe Fawkner, who, after settling in Hobson's Bay in October 1835, amassed large land holdings, was a newspaper proprietor and served on the Legislative Council for 18 years. Cream coloured card certifying the membership of James Hinds of 61 Spring Street as Member no. 17 of the Protestant Association of Victoria on 5 March 1958. Printed in dark brown/purple. Other units participating included 5th/6th Battalion and 8th/7th Battalion Royal Victorian Regiment, 4th/19th Prince of Wales’s Light Horse Regiment and 1st Armoured Regiment. Copy of photograph of Royal visit to Tatura, 5 March 1954. The Queen and Duke of Edinburgh were greeted on totally renovated station. decorated with masses of flowers and shrubs. The visit to Tatura of Queen Elizabeth 2 was first by a reigning monarch and no other visit has caused such excitement. The Station was highly decorated and the Royal Cypher in golden flowers mounted on scarlet velvet made a perfect background for the artistic scheme.
