Badge - FEMALE RELATIVE BADGE WW2, G&E Rodd, 1940
The badge belonged to Mrs May BALDWIN. Two stars on the badge showed she had two sons in the 2nd A.I.F, Ted & Robert. Ted (short for Edward) is believed to be George Edward BALDWIN No VX120046. He enlisted in the 2nd AIF on 10.7.1942 age 20 years. On discharge from the Army on 2.4.1946 he was a Pte in the 29/46th Aust Infantry Battalion. Robert is believed to be Walter Robert BALDWIN No VX55835. He enlisted in the 2nd AIF on 14.5.1941 age 20 years. He was in the 2/29th Batt and is listed in their history as being in D Coy. He was taken POW and is listed as died while a POW on 27.5.1943. Refer 1895.Badge, metal, "To the Women of Australia". Centre section is round with a crown over two circular wreaths with a map of Australia Centre. Attached by 2 rings is a clasp with 2 stars. A fine chain and pin attached at the top. Btn from 12.1.1942 to 1.2.1944, transfer to "Z" Special unit and serves in N.E.I and Borneo from 29.3.1945 - 17.12.1945, discharged from the AIF on 23.6.1946. Ron is Ronald Ormand Webb enlisted in the CMF No V26051 in the 26th M.G. Btn, discharged from the CMF on 28.6.1942 and joins the AIF No VX89115 on 29.6.1942. Served in Darwin with 19th M.G. Btn from 3.2.1942 - 23.3.1944, transfers to "Z" Special Unit and serves in Morotai and Borneo from 27.3.1945 to 17.12.1945, discharged from the AIF on 30.1.1946. This kit bag travelled Alice Springs to Larrimah NT and return for three years, then Borneo, Tarakan and Balikpapan.This is a canvas kit bag. Brown colour. It has a series of brass eyelets around the lip. It has an internal cover flap.Bottom of bag has been painted black, then the number “92329” in white paint on that. The Company moved to Swan Street Richmond before they moved to Nunawading. (Information Courtesy of Graham Plaw of the Hand Tools Preservation Society). Inscription from postcards written by Joseph Tracey to his wife Jessie and daughter Ruby, 9 Barclay Street, Richmond. Joseph's number was 2891, 38th battalion, 6th reinforcements.
