Warrnambool Cordials was one of a number of cordial and aerated Waters Manufacturers who operated in Warrnambool from about 1859 until the 1980’s. Warrnambool Cordials was commenced in the early 1920’s by two brothers, Joseph and James Lescai. James operated a fruit shop in Fairy Street and Joseph as an industrial chemist made his own cordials which became very popular. Soon a company was formed with four local businessmen, J S Tait, Chas McMeekin, G Cinquegrana and John Gleeson who took over the company around the 1930’s. Warrnambool Cordials was then purchased by the Flett brothers around 1942. It was then sold in the 1960’s to Thomas McKenzie who traded as McKenzie Cordials. Warrnambool Cordials were one of a number of cordial manufacturers who operated in Warrnambool from the late 19th century until late 20th century. Two clear glass cylindrical bottles with 12 lines and indentations within formation of glass. It is topped with plastic spout which has two metal rims at bottom . Warrnambool Cordial Co. surrounds stylized logo “W” topped with small “C” and encased in large “C.” Small print.” British Syphon Co Ltd London. Lisa Widdop (16/07/1971-18/01/2024) was an "artist, painter, creator of many things, connoisseur of small and precious things" Quote from her memorial card. Lisa was an alumni of Federation University. Lisa was also a passionate member of OZACT - a touring theatre company dedicated to making Shakespeare accessible to con temporary Australian audiences with performances in Southern Australia's outdoor landscapes. This significant historical link in Melbourne’s water supply system is perhaps something we have taken for granted, or not even really noticed…it is just there! Built between 1886 and 1891 to transfer water from the Watts River near Healesville to the reservoir at Preston this aqueduct was 66 km in length and included open channels, tunnels and the use of inverted siphons to keep water flowing, to eventually service Melbourne and suburbs. Father Paul Van Chi Chu is a prolific composer of Vietnamese liturgical music and author. Ordained in Saigon, Vietnam, in 1975, he was imprisoned for several years by Communist authorities opposed to his religious activities. He escaped in 1988 and resettled in Australia. Currently, he serves the Vietnamese Catholic community in Sydney. Four Posts Inn. Glenorchy built about 1841 by John Gleeson on the Wimmera River at Glenorchy. Building no longer exists as burnt down in 1944. Located on the site now known as Glenorchy (Victoria). Glenorchy is approximately 20Km from the former Ashen's pastoral run occupied by Dugald McPherson. The Four post Inn was a "Staging Camp" for the police escort route during the transportation of gold by road from Mount Alexander gold fields (Bendigo) to Adelaide South Australia in 1852-53. The police escort is known to have called in at Ashens homestead to visit Dugald McPherson. The Four Post Inn was the scene on the occasion of and encounter between the police escort and bushrangers. At a later date The Four Post Inn was a staging camp for the horse drawn coach service between Stawell and Horsham.Small weatherboard building with no verandah and tree blocking the view. One girl (wearing the stovepipe hat?) has the same surname as the donor, presumably the donor's daughter. The information regarding the identities of the other children is therefore trustworthy.The photograph shows how Empire Day was celebrated and by implication how it was understood.
