Historical information
This significant historical link in Melbourne’s water supply system is perhaps something we have taken for granted, or not even really noticed…it is just there!
Built between 1886 and 1891 to transfer water from the Watts River near Healesville to the reservoir at Preston this aqueduct was 66 km in length and included open channels, tunnels and the use of inverted siphons to keep water flowing, to eventually service Melbourne and suburbs.
At this meeting Jim Connor will talk about the challenges and achievements involved with this extraordinary project.
