The service was conducted by Rev Dr D Grierson with the Installing Officer being Rev R F Giese. The Methodist Girls' Comradeship was formed in 1918 with the first Branch being in Bondi, NSW. There were three sections: Junior Rays, 8 - 11 years; Senior Rays, 11 - 15 years and Comrades, 15 years and over. The aims of the MGC was to "challenge young people with the saving power of Jesus Christ and provide avenues of christian service" and "to provide for the spiritual, social, physical and educational welfare of the members". Rawlinson served with distinction in a field command in the Second Boer War from 1899 to 1902. He was in Western Transvaal during early 1902 and led a column taking part in the Battle of Rooiwai, the last battle of the war. Following the end of hostilities he returned to England. The star, commonly known as a 'pip' is derived from the Star of the Knight Cross of the Military Division of the Order of the Bath. Part of the Reverend Chaplain Major Thomas Bruce Williams, No 556101, Collection.Eighteen officer's rank insignia featuring a gold coloured star. In the middle of the star is a red circle with the motto 'Tria Juncla In Uno' inscribed. Surrounding this circle is a green laurel leaf wreath. After serving in Malta and India, he became Assistant Adjutant General at Home District in 1893. After the outbreak of the Second Boer War he was appointed Colonel commandant of the City of London Volunteers who proceeded to South Africa. This corps included infantry, mounted infantry and artillery. They were in South Africa from January 1900 until October 1900, returning to England. The corps was disbanded in December 1900.
