Coloured certificate from 1900 Country Fire Brigades Board Castlemaine Demonstration for 1st prize in the discipline event for brigades of 30 men. Certificate has various pictures of fire activities, a horse drawn steam pumper, a mannual pump at a multi story building fire, a multi story building fire with a fireman up a ladder, a number of brigades marching and a bell ringing. This group of items is retained as a record of a typical project of the Ringwood Amateur Photography using multi-media facilities available in 1965 - ie slides and slide projector and an audio tape reocrding to accompany the slideshow. Project by the RIngwood Amateur Photography Club in 1965 - a slideshow entitled "Our City of Many Faces" cvoering Melbourne, the Dandenongs, Bayside beach etc. Originally donated as a tin box of Slides, and audio narration on reel of tape, and a handwritten booklet with the text and notation of slide number for each text comment. The slides were then scanned at RDHS Archives (2024), the audio tape was converted to a digital file by Aidem Media, and the slides and audio file combined into a digital movie by Ken Briscoe and Rob Carter (RDHS) which was subsequently shown to a meeting of RDHS. The speaker on the audio tape is not identified After conversion and cataloguing, the physical slides, audio tape and tin were disposed of. Only the handwritten script booklet is retained (along with the digital files). The final movie is not loaded to Victorian Collections (256Mb) but is available from the RDHS Archives. Attached is a pdf copy of the script booklet, the audio tape digital copy, a pdf table index to images, and images of the tin and each of the slides. Annotation to the Handwritten Booklet: "A record of Time and Tide in Ringwood, Melbourne, Australia".

During surgery under general anaesthetic, these forceps were used to pull the tongue forward to keep the patient's airways clear from obstruction. This tool was in general use from the 1930s onwards in teaching hospitals, and became a standard piece of equipment on all anaesthetic trolleys. In the majority of teaching hospitals, the blades of these forceps were smooth and wide to cause less trauma to the tongue. This particular style of tongue forceps is known as Guy's tongue forceps.Dr Mitchell Henry O'Sullivan worked in the Victorian country town of Casterton as a general practitioner from 1919 until his death in 1977. He also practiced obstetrics. His son, Dr David More O'Sullivan donated his obstetric bag and its contents to the College in 1999. The bag and contents are a unique time capsule of the type of instruments and pharmaceuticals used in the inter-war period.Pair of metal forceps. Similar in appearance to a pair of scissors, and other surgical forceps, but with rounded teardrop shaped tips. There is also a notch clip for the handle to keep the forceps open. Recognising that warmed ether was less irritating to the airway and patients receiving it were less likely to experience shock, Francis Shipway developed the Shipway's apparatus which was used during World War 1 and continued to be used through to World War 2. Reduction of shock for patients who had experienced trauma was crucial to their later recovery, particularly during war times. This example of the Shipway's apparatus also has the facility for administering chloroform.A triangular metal stand with two glass jars sitting in a metal tub and a green metal jar that looks like a thermos, also sitting in a metal tub. A metal pole has been screwed into the centre point of the stand, with a circular top to act as a handle. One of the jars has a rubber stopper in the neck with metal tubing attached to the stopper. The other glass jar has a metal screw top with a dropper spout. The two glass jars are connected via red rubber tubing. These handkerchiefs come from the estate of Ena Heazlewood. Mary Josephine (Ena) Todd was born in Warrnambool in 1920 and worked as a hairdresser at Josephine’s Salon in Warrnambool. In 1942 she married a Warrnambool man, Jack Heazlewood, who was stoker on the H.M.A.S. Sydney at the time. They later lived in Sydney. These items are of interest as examples of the handkerchiefs found in a woman’s collection mid last century and as mementoes of a former Warrnambool resident, Ena Heazlewood.
