Photograph - 'Reno', St John's Parade, c.1960
This work forms part of the collection assembled by the historian Dorothy Rogers, that was donated to the Kew Historical Society by her son John Rogers in 2015. The manuscripts, photographs, maps, and documents were sourced by her from both family and local collections or produced as references for her print publications. Many were directly used by Rogers in writing ‘Lovely Old Homes of Kew’ (1961) and 'A History of Kew' (1973), or the numerous articles on local history that she produced for suburban newspapers. Most of the photographs in the collection include detailed annotations in her hand. The Rogers Collection provides a comprehensive insight into the working habits of a historian in the 1960s and 1970s. Photograph - 'Raheen', 96 Studley Park Road, c.1980
Raheen was constructed as a two-storey house in the Italianate style with a four-storey tower over the entrance and single-storey extension. It was designed in an asymmetric and arcaded form, and is built of red brick with cement render. The property retains its garden layout, including an Italianate garden, outbuildings, fence and gates, and internal features including the original stairwell, library, ballroom and cast iron tower stairs. Photograph - 'Prague House' (formerly 'Dunboe'), 52 Sackville Street, 1988
Documentary evidence records that the first occupier of this substantial two-storey residence was Harry Karlbaum, a sharebroker and although the owner's name is not listed in the Rate Books for this first year, it appears in 1893 as Robert Crawford Anderson, a merchant, The property was given an initial N.A.V. of £150 in 1892 while by 1900 it was listed as having eleven rooms. (Kew Conservation Study, 1988)Colour photographic positive of one of 'Prague House'. The house is clad in render and is typical of the late Victorian period with an asymmetrical composition that has a loggia of stilted segmental arches at both levels that turns the corner of the house, and a polygonal bay window on one side of the front facade. The application of colonettes across the facade, the square piers to the loggia. and the lift in the eave to form a gable unit are less typical. Photograph - Kane's Bridge on the Yarra River, December 1934
In 1928 a footbridge was erected to link Kew with the public golf course across the Yarra. The total cost of construction came to 250 pounds and the bridge became known as Kane's Bridge. During the 1934 floods the bridge was washed downstream, and was subsequently rebuilt. The present form of the bridge resembles the earlier bridge which crossed from the Yarra Bend Asylum to Kew, further upstream. Photograph - c. 1900s, [Illegible], Rock of Ages in Statuary and Song, c.1900s
Deaf women dressed in white flowing robes were typically used by the Society at meetings and lectures giving a performance in living statuary. This photograph is a depiction from Rock of Ages in Statuary and Song described in a review by the Spectator - the words of the hymn softly sung by the Cornish Choir to an exquisitely delicate organ accompaniment by Mr E. J. Watkins. The Grouping of Living Statuary with the limelight thrown upon them from either side, motionless as marble figures, but with the life and love and adoration in their eyes and on their faces, formed the most beautiful objects we have ever beheld. The Audience looked and listened in breathless silence and many eyes were glistening with tears. This photo is significant as a studio photograph of Deaf women who performed 'living statuar'y at many of the lectures and meetings held in the early years of the 20th century by the Adult Deaf and Dumb Society of Victoria ; possibly introduced by Ernest Abraham to add drama to the occasion.A5 black and white photograph on a cardboard frame. The photograph features five women in robes surrounding a cross."City Chambers / 114 Elizabeth Street / Melbourne" Signature of photographer or studio name illegible. -

hard cover non-fiction book, The Lost Diggers, 2012
The small French village of Vignacourt was always behind the front lines. For much of the First World War it was a staging point, casualty clearing station and recreation area for troops of all nationalities moving up to and then back from the battlefields on the Somme. Remember me: the lost diggers of Vignacourt tells the story of how one enterprising photographer took the opportunity of this passing traffic to establish a business taking portrait photographs. Captured on glass, printed into postcards and posted home, the photographs made by the Thuillier family enabled Australian soldiers to maintain a fragile link with loved ones in Australia. The Thuillier collection covers many of the significant aspects of Australian involvement on the Western Front, from military life to the friendships and bonds formed between the soldiers and civilians. The exhibition showcases a selection of the photographs as handmade traditional darkroom prints and draws on the Memorial's own collections to tell the story of these men in their own voicesapprox 4000 images were discovered in the attic of a barn Vignacourt, of soldiers and other life in WW1.An exciting story about the discovery of the plates of Vignacourt -
